if space would be an issue right around the galleria area for rail; make it an el. the idea was kicked around in the 80's. it would be preferable becuase traffic at westheimer/610 is already a bitch.
i like the idea of a subway station at the galleria though. i think there will be a BRT route going and down post oak as well.

thanks for the update - so who wants to protest?
i'm game.
just think with the trend converting buildings no longer profitable for corporate use to residential, this building would be perfect.

the williams tower is not really known to folks outside of the houston area. houston folks come there to neck, commit suicide or sit atop of the parking garage with a high powered rifle. however, if al 'queda were to hit houston (which is a possibility), they would hit the refineries or the ship channel. plus williams isn't the only tower "locked down" since 9/11 but most office buildings have become inhabited by roaming packs of security officers. i think shutting down tall office towers immediately after 9/11 was a wise idea but after a couple of months, they should have eased up a bit. no matter where i go with my digi-cam, i always have some wary eyed
as for the national guard at the airport in the weeks after 9/11, not a bad idea and most countries do have heavily armed police stationed at airports.

I don't get it, why would having access to the sky loby be a security risk? I'm pretty sure that if they wanted to fly and airplane into Williams Tower they can do it from outside of the sky lobby.
typical knee-jerk reaction to 9/11 we seem to encounter all over the place.

XMarks the spot for my suggestion of locations
Western part of Galleria off Westheimer Rd:
there;s no way a stadium could fit here. that chunk of land is too small, the traffic is bad and there's CVS now on the corner. and that other X is where my pharmacy is and where i like to do midnight junk food runs.

seeing that mervyns is going belly up across the street, maybe...just maybe, taking that space could prove to be more economical to who wanted bank ones's space. imploding this building would trully be a crime....

YAY! more cheesy over-priced apartments, another strip center and surface lots. woohoo!
love it or hate, i bet it will be still better (architecturally) than what will be replacing it.

i'm not down with notion of midtown or downtown getting all the projects. if this were some podunk town that would be one thing but given that houston is huge, development like this is perfectly fine. i don't want a city of two million to have to congrate to the "village center" for shopping and entertainment.
It does look huge. I work just blocks from there(when not deployed). I can't recall What is currently there now?there is a vacant upscale shopping center (pavillion) and another strip center with an eatzies' at the end...which i hope gets incorporated into the new project.

yeh, i just noticed the neon light tonite on the way home from class. gives those guys haning out in the space station something to look at.
i was on the design team of this arena and still have CAD drawings to all the levels somewhere on my hard-drive. oh...when you there and you're in the bathroom, think of me, i helped with their layouts.
