Why do they cover Mexico City news? Someone needs to tell them that this is America and not Mexico.
there are mucho mexicans in houston and coverage of 30% of the local population's home country make business sense.
-
no doubt they will see this thread since they have people combing this site looking illegal citations of their articles.
my opinion is that for being a major metropolitan newspaper, they could be better.

andy's on 11th st. (near studewood) in the heights is pretty damn good.

japanese stuff is kinda hard to come by.
btw, "kangei" to the forum.

Damn. I keep reading bad things about Park at Voss. The place looks great, I've taken a tour of it, even talked to one of the random residents while I was at the complex and he loved living there. Then I come home and see all the bad things people have posted about it here and on www.apartmentratings.com.
I've got a LOT of second thoughts about the place, but I haven't seen a complex I like as much around the galleria area. Do any of you guys have other recommendations (maybe these new complexes you're talking about), that I could check out? I just moved back from San Diego and don't want to get stuck in a lease at some hellhole that looked nice on the outside.
If anyone has lived there and had a great experience or a horror story, I'd like to hear it. You can get in touch with me at kathulos@hotmail.com.
Thanks,
Christian
that place is a pit. my mother has been there since 1999 and until a few months ago, she had drug dealers downstairs right from her. they didn't get evicted but were shipped off to iraq becuase the leasing office didn't give a ____, as long as they got a rent check.
-
yeah, riva place.
i live one block over from this area and haven't seen any activity there as of yet.
-
my mother lives there and despite the extensive renovations, the quality of residents has gotten much worse.

^ hines intrests (the developer) has grown immensly since the 80's but has focused much of attention overseas.

Now the question is -- will it actually be an "international festival" or will it be the same crappy art vendors and the same crappy food vendors selling the same stuff they sell at every festival?
I stopped going after the year it was supposed to be a French theme. There was virtually nothing French there. I think there was an Eiffel Tower made out of sand and a place where you could sample som wine. Otherwise, it was the same stupid art vendors selling non-French art and the same food wagons selling Mexican food. All Houston festivals look the same these days.
yeah, i stopped going for the same reason. i was excited about the italian themed one back a few years ago but was sorely dissapointed becuase it was pure cheese. the italian food was just papa johns pizza and not REAL italian food.
for a supposed international city, we can do much better...

Finally, Pat Tillman is a great example of an unselfish & non-self serving American patriot. It burns my insides to read articles by these hippy left wing cowards who say he threw his life away. I can only hope my kids grow up half as selfish as he did. God bless him and his parents for correctly raising their child.
Glen
i am quite liberal and sit pretty far to the left but i admired pat tillman becuase here is a guy who walked away from a multi-million dollar pro-football career to go and (and eventually die) for something he felt strongly about. whether for or againt the war, i don't see how anyone could not see him as anything but admirable.
pro sports need more people like this guy. this doesn't mean that they all have to be as alturistic as tillman and go to iraq but they need to realize that it's not all about the money.

this is why i detest professional sports. i voted against all the new stadiums here in town. a billion dollars spent on these stadiums but schools around the city are falling apart, kids are using dated equipment and text books and the fire and police departments are understaffed but then again, cities that pander to these teams have their priorities all ____ed up anyway.
as for beltran, the players are so indoctrinated in the greed that comes with professional sports that they are no longer athletes but corporate whores. why would he be any different?

I'm not sure what it is about them that makes them look like they belong there even though they're dressed worse than me.
...they are at ease in their environment and aren't giving off the "ooh ooh, look at me...i'm rich!" message.
-
i also agree that that zone d'erotica is an eyesore but i don't see how they will leave unless they go belly up.
-
the previous two posts are spot on. if there's anything i learned about teh nouvo riche since i have been in houston is that they may have bucks but they still fall short in culture and class. as for the developments being "cookie-cutter", absolutly...and they look cheap too as in shoddy construction..

^ i can see that in midtown but not in uptown

yep, 77056 is stylin'

why?churches do offer activities for kids and grownups, you know. i think it's great that churches offer activities for the benefit of the mebers and community. what's with you people?there's Bible study, singles bible study, married couples workshops and plenty of other organizations you can choose.we have a basketball court at our church and people ,whether they are members or not, come and play.this is one way to keep kids off the street or spending most of their time playing video games.you still find that odd?
there's nothing wrong with it. i actually use the fitness center at second baptist church but i'm just not used to big churches that's all. if i was a church going person, i would find them impersonal due to the immense size.
-
Surely UHCL taught you how to finish a thought???
no, they only offered that at rice.
anyways, i find mega-churches with ice rinks and basketball courts...odd.
-
as someone who is non-religious, i find this...odd.

Those landmarks are (well not nyc) hundreds of years old... and serve a major purpose...
Why pay for such a huge structure that isn't being used, and throwing money out the window? If the Empire State building's leases ever got emptied (back then) I'm sure it would have been empolded... or if the Capitol moved from DC, what purpose would they serve? nothing... but they did, and thats why there still here today.
he's talking figuratively of course and i agree with him. the dome represents houston

the concept of mega-churches still astounds me even after being here 7 years. we don't have anything remotely like that back in the northeast.

"well apparently when the wind was blowing at a good clip and 'ol glory was pulled out taut, it created so much force that it damaged the top 3 stories of the building that the pole mounts down through."
i'm no structural engineer but if a flag blowing around on the roof weakens teh structure of a skyscraper...isn't that in the least bit disturbing?
