I suspect so. The entire line will shut down this weekend.
-
Just passed it a bit ago, had a few people up in top.
Curious to know what business is like.

This phase of construction is making picking a weekend to film the newest progress on the line challenging.
For the past several weekends, they have been shutting down the Main street intersections.
Do you guys think I should just suck it up and do it on a weekday, wait for rainy weekend, or pray they will finish it at the end of July?

I initially took this picture a few weeks ago, but I have since seen it as far south as the Museum District.
How long has this been going on? I've seen the company name on other buses previously, though.
found their website.

Well, I saw some porta potties out there, so I guess its a go.

true, i just keep seeing people say this building will break ground in 2014. Chevrons new tower isnt even expected to break ground until 2014 so im not sure how a tower with no tenants yet would be able to have that kind of schedule unless they already have all the building permits, ect. for the site. i really hope another boom is coming to downtown, its nice to see some companies looking to the future and trying to be more urban instead of moving to the suburbs like the current trend has been.
I don't think Chevron Tower should factor into the how much vacant space is available downtown, because I'm sure they intend of using every single foot of that space.

How long was the trip? Did you go back the same way?

I've heard the same. One guy wants to stay inside the Loop because of his wife's work (living in the northern burbs wouldn't be practical), but is none too pleased about the move. And they have kids. We shouldn't assume that having a family means you automatically want to move to the burbs and that of course The Woodlands is the most desirable suburb.
What is the final straw to a number of them, are those that are located south of the city would be denied a moving stipend because it isn't far enough.

It just occurred to me... I wonder how many Exxon Employees are going to try to jump ship and work for Chevron? I've been talking to a huge number of Exxon employees and plenty of them are not happy about going to the campus.

You need to put it in perspective, I've been to this bar and its normally just a pretty good time there.
But like ANY bar in Houston, you're going to have idiots show up and cause trouble.

I do not know where you live. I live in the Upper Kirby District. There a mid rises everywhere, including cranes. There is also a 40 floor high rise going up on Alabama. Also another 8 floor high rise on the other side. 21 floor high rise off Allen Parkway. They just expanded West Ave. and so on and so on.
I understand that. I read the HAIF the same as you do. I'm just talking about a specific area that I am usually in.

Just curious, how did you capture this shot?
While I think you used a wide lens (18mm?) to grab it, did you turn around while biking, or was it mounted?

There are 10,000 units being built within the loop. Your numbers are wrong. You should check what is going on behind the Huntington high rise in the Avalon area. They are building $1,000,000 houses only 1 is left out of 20. Hines is building a 17 floors office tower behind BBVA the River Oaks Tower behind it. The land is already cleared.
Rico used a different criteria than you did. He only considered building in certain neighborhoods, so I wouldn't be so quick to say that he's wrong.
BTW, is your 10,000 unit number a net number? I believe that quite a few of those are replacing existing developments.
I used VERY rough numbers.
For apts, I assumed an average of 1.7 people. This would allow for people with roommates, vacant units, and those with multiple rooms. I figure it would be a fairly ballpark figure.
For townhomes, I assumed a 2.1 average for basically the same reason.
Again, I was specific with particular neighbhoods because I was familiar with what was being built, but I'd have to say that the majority of the population increase would be in areas named.

While I won't argue your numbers, I'm only talking about the areas that I specified and only did a rough number of the town homes that I know are under construction as well as the known number of apartment buildings.
-
Lol, well you could say the same for official city populations haha. We're all freaks here
A significant amount of most cities would also consider a bunch of rank amateurs are DEBATING populations as a bit freaky.
But, hey, everyone needs a hobby.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I figure that Midtown, Montrose, and Heights will experience a population increase of about 4,000 people in just over the next two years. That is, of course, after all of the apartments, town homes, and Highrises that are currently under construction are completed. That doesn't include of stuff that isn't even on our radar.

After the kids fly the coop in a couple of years, we will be empty nesters are looking at the east side to buy and rent out until we move in, but its difficult to find a SMALL two bedroom to buy.
I might have to buy a duplex to convert, or even buy an old apt. complex and be a slum lord.
-
Sad thing is, if they probably put in a request with the city with a proper plan, they might have been able to do it anyway.

100 years ago, most folks didn't have cars. As they started buying cars, they quit taking the train. Taking the train to Galveston seems like a huge pain, especially if you have a cooler, beach stuff, fishing equipment, picnic basket, stroller for the kid, etc. and, once you get there, it's not like there's lots of transportation in Galveston. Why would I take a train to Galveston, which takes a few hours, when I can drive there in an hour, go all over the town, doen to San Luis Pass, visit the restaurants I want, then get home on my schedule?
Then a train wouldn't suit for you. Would you carry the same items if there was a flight from Katy to Galveston?
Just as some people can deal with a small car, and others that NEED a suburban, some methods of transport aren't for them.
I do have to agree that Galveston needs to get their trolley's back up and running and maybe expand it a tad. It would be ideal for people that want to board the cruise lines, go for a day trip, stay for the weekend, or like me, wanting to take the family to The Pleasure Pier without having to deal with the traffic going too and from the Island.

What quite a few people don't realize, is that it before Road Runner, it was a Ramada. During my hazy younger years, my friends and I partied at the bar there (it was one big complex with the main/taller building next door.) and it was called the "Rama Room."
Don't recall much after that. Only that I was thankful I had a DD and woke up in strange places.

I suspect that the number of stations will expand to the West, south along the medical centers and holcomb, and possibly to the north. But what I can't see if they're going to expand it to the east. The only place I can see them putting them down is up and down along the East line.

I was just thinking, this would be a great place to stage cars for special events as they are needed. Just pile them up there and they won't interfere with normal operations until they're needed.
At least, I hope that is part of what they're thinking of using it as.

There is, I drove on Elysian to get it, my buddy was in a hurry and could only get a couple of off angle shots. The stairway itself is pretty large.

A friend got into an accident by Kat's, I'm starting to believe that a speed reduction of 20mph might be necessary all the way to Dunlavy.
I'm totally against parking on Westheimer, people will pop out without warning. It's like a wierd version of "Whack-a-mole."

Had a bit of free time, so I decided to go snap a pic.
I'm fairly curious about the format and how it would be utilized.

I would suspect that, weather permitting, the main street intersection will be closed for construction every weekend, in part because of the station construction.
