My hope is that there would be free parking after 2am to allow those that are to drunk to drive to leave their cars without having to worry about tickets or towing.

I kinda wish it would go. I don't stop in at a Hard Rock even when I'm traveling.
I don't hit a McDonald's when I visit other citie, I say those should go as well.

Like this?
That is what I generally carryn but a like my 28mm 2.8
Love that lens.

My issue is that they are going by current projections that passenger traffic will be flat.
In this economy, I wouldn't argue that, however once it improves, there is a possibly that it will mushroom and we will be struggling to catch up again.
It would be like building terminal d on a larger scale throughout the entire airportwith little forethought.

Depending under what conditions and type of photography uh intend to take.
I haven't been able to get a good shoot of the construction at rice because I need a smaller lens (18mm or smaller.) to capture the entire scene.

Oh! And by the way, what I meant by "militant gay" is that they are hardcore in their beliefs that homosexuality is the way to go and take offence over any percieved slight.
-
That's ok.
I lost my Mexican card when I voted for Romney.
Just because you're a minority, your vote for a political party is not predetermined.
Anyone that thinks and does that, imho, is an idiot.

Log cabin republican, eh?
absolutely awesome
-
The only thing I ask is that you don't become a militant gay.
Had a friend that was one and alienated a number of his straight and a few of his gay friends.
-
I wish to throw in my congrats as well.
If you don't mind my asking, what finally triggered this?
Had another friend come out of the closet recently, It was a "no duh!" moment.

Just read on swamplot that both structures are going down.
An absolute pity that they're tearing down the Old Ben Milam hotel.
Kinda' makes me wonder how long the detention/jail is going to survive in the area.

The way Houston is set up,...
What makes Houston so different from Seoul?\
Here there are at the same scale. There isn't much of a difference that I can see.
The general distances are somewhat the same from their version of 610 to ours. I'm not familiar with the topography, but from what I can see, they have mountains to the north and south of the city about where 610 north and south would be.
The only difference I can really see is that the subway system is more developed there, and have a substantially larger population (10mil vs 2mil).

This is quite fascinating.
However, I do wonder where the traffic "went".
Were the freeways rerouted, or did they simply "end?"
Looking at the map as it currently stands, is quite interesting.
I haven't been able to find a map off hand that shows what the infrastructure (Bus, Subway, freeways) looked like before the deconstruction.
Perhaps it would be interesting to have a discussion on how this CAN be implemented.
Let's not start off by simply saying, "It can't be done", when we know it has been done in a larger city.
There are quite a few things that have to fall in place before it can be done, improving transit options and routes. All that would have to be done to coincide with such a project.

Took a little time to take a few shots of the site before they started work, but it seems like they are doing some demo already.
I'm assuming they're going to knock down that building there?
It will be a pity to lose this building. The Old Bells and Whistles place...not so much.

What did you shoot with?
The stadium personnel were eyeballing my cards and almost didn't let me bring it in.
-
Not really a fair comparison. the subway system hasn't been upgraded For years and never really ready for something like this but I'm sure that's going to change.
-
Took a couple of shots yesterday.
It appears that they removed the gates in one section and moved the fence in another.

I happen to meet an engineer that was in town for Metro. Turns out a team of over 40 engineers were running sound/vibration tests on the material they used to sheath the rails with. Unfortunately, i don't know the results, but I'm sure someone might leak the info in the future.
also a team came to test the new car that just arrived, but I wasn't able to wiggle that much more information from them.
-
I am going to vote "no", unless there is a compelling reason why metro should share funds with every municipality in the area.
-
Longs like they blocked of the street already.
Any bets on when construction will start?

Just thought I'd bump this a bit.
Things went a bit off topic, but I hope people would continue to debate it properly again.

Maybe they're buying the Citgo and strip center as well. How close can you build residential next to a gas station?
I don't think that is the case. They purchased all the land they planned on getting, otherwise, they wouldn't have announced it. To do so prematurely would have made the other landowners increase price of their land.
I need to see if I can take a proper picture of the land for a "before" picture.

Well, don't forget that they are using the parking lot across the street.
The Adobe side is too small for parking, so um anxious to see what design they use to incorporate both parcels without asking the city to abandon that street.
