  1. It does and I wish that they'd build more of them, but I'd like to see then in the urban parts as well. Maybe build a few near the current TCs in town as well in the burbs. A few along the rail lines, and a few more at the TCs around town, especially those that seriously need to be expanded.
  2. I kind of wish metro would build garages in various area that are accessible to metro services. If they had first floor retail, that would help diffuse some of the costs, more so if they charged a bit for secure parking. I would not doubt that people would use metro, bus and rail, if they could make it more convenient.
  3. I think the whole issue stems from the fact that metro bleeds money. fare hikes would have to be substantial for them to be even close to getting a profit. P&R services those outside metros service area, and I think that as long as it provides a cheaper alternative to parking where the passenger's destination, then a hike could be justified. I'm rather curious to know what regions the various riders end up. has there been a study on that?
  4. The difference being is that most street traffic noise is on ground level. Scott Gertner's bar was actually up in the air so the sound would radiate a further distance.
  5. If they are putting in a hotel, then it wouldn't be wise to have an outdoor patio that would be producing noise until 2 am. This is especially true if they are already getting complaints from a hotel two blocks away. I'm genuinely sorry to see it go, but if they want a music venue with a patio, then they need to find a location that won't disturb the neighbors.
  6. The difference between mowing your yard and this is the fact that the surface is constantly changing. What may be in one spot at one point maybe a hundred miles away in only a few hours or so depending on the currents.
  7. screw all of them. I prefer Craig Ferguson.
  8. What would be better is an HOV or transit dedicated lane over the causeway.
  9. It should be interesting on how they plan on working around the rail lines, esp considering some of the equipment is taller than the overhead wires.
  10. no. because by that point, I realized that I wasn't going to change his mind. There are times when you have to realize that people don't like having their minds challenged by opposing views. same thing in politics.
  11. I can attest that riding a bike in the middle of summer isn't a big deal, as long as you aren't pedaling like lance Armstrong, you shouldn't even sweat.
  12. I was waiting for a friend at Sullivan's, and as usual, he was late. While having a drink, I started talking to the guy next to me. We talked about stuff in general and was aggravated that my friend was caught up in traffic. I mentioned that I can't wait for public transportation to be built. His entire demeanor changed at that point. His entire argument was basically that the proposed rail wouldn't go to where people wanted to go. He mentioned destinations like papas steakhouse. It was all I could do to not roll my eyes at him. He coughed up facts from some expert they hired. Basically that the train would move less people then the the lane of traffic it would take up. He dismissed the logic about heavy traffic and how no one would use it, plus the fact that it would take a lane of roadway. Then he proceeds to claim that he was a native and knew what he was talking about. I replied in kind and he seemed to reevaluate me. Not wanting to get into a heated argument, I just shook my head and ended the conversation when I finally saw my friend an hour later. yeah. their mind set hasn't changed much.
  13. What they also need is a generously large drop off point. As it currently stands, you're blocking traffic that are trying to do the same thing and then becomes a traffic jam as it starts to interfere with people trying to find a parking spot. I know there is a drop off point on the med center side, but it isn't clearly identified and looks abandoned.

    METRORail Green Line

That tunnel was built way before modern epa standards. then again the standards were probably different in this situation compared to a residential area.
  15. This was discussed several years ago in another thread. from what I remember, it is a highly profitable location. As someone had just mentioned, since mac's closed I have seen an uptick in business there. They could spruce it up a bit though.
  16. I've never been comfortable with either. Since I'm not really willing to buy coin, I don't have the tech to "mine" it. That said, if you have extra expendable cash, go for it.
  17. The one stock I'm waiting on a dip to buy actually climbs in price. (pfe)
  18. I think they were about to move some trees between Waugh and studemont yesterday.

    METRORail Green Line

friend of mine just told me he saw a train being towed along the east line. Just testing?
  20. is it me, or is the reception to 92.1 news horrible? they've been iffy on the radio lately, but I can't get then at all today.
  21. That statement made my head hurt. The only other possibly I could think of is that during severe weather, they would shut down that station and simply go through, but that still doesn't justify the additional tracks.
  22. I'm not worried, I'm still beating the market. It can be a bit aggravating when the shows are screaming bears or Bulls.
  23. the picture I took last year shows the configuration more clearly. It's like they anticipate this station for heavy usage. I figured they could also use it to stage trains during major events.
  24. But if the train is supposed to stop at every station, why would they need a way to pass a stopped train?
  25. what is your point? not saying a greenspoint makes sense, but do you honestly believe other people outside of that stop might go use it? I don't live near IAH, but I fly out of the occasionally.
