  1. That's Element's old facility, they moved out to 290 and the Beltway a couple of years ago and the land has been for sale since. They are an O&G / Aerospace material testing facility.

Looks like the property is still for sale (the listing on loop net was just updated last week). My guess is they are demoing one or a few of the existing functionally obsolete buildings to make the property more marketable.

It really does look odd from the North. Noticed that on Friday. Was hoping it would encompass the entire top, but looks like that's not happening. Although a much nicer building, it kind of reminds me of Memorial Herman's offset crown in Memorial City. Just strikes me as a strange thing to do.

They started building out a steel frame yesterday to expand the crown to encompass the entire floor. This morning it looks like they were boxing it in with the pre-cast.

From the construction came, it also looks like they are also about to pour a new parking lot next to the Bently / Rolls dealer.

Pearland Economic Development Corp. president Matt Buchanan said that the city is working with AMG, which is the Houston subsidiary of Modern Land of China, to ensure proper infrastructure is in place before further construction occurs.

"Obviously this area doesn't have a lot of infrastructure right now," Buchanan said of the acreage. "So, any time you undertake a project of this scale and magnitude, there's quite a bit of planning that needs to go into place to get it all put together."

Before construction can resume, the city and AMG need to create and complete zoning development agreements for needed off-site infrastructure. That would include roadways, drainage, parks and amenities in and around the site.

In a statement, John Chiang, a spokeman for Sueba USA, a developer partnering with AMG on the project, echoed that the project is going through the approval process with local governments.

"In the meantime there are lots of uncertainties in the real estate market and availability of financing," he said in a statement. "It is premature to make any announcement of the project."

The company planning high-speed rail service between Houston and Dallas announced Tuesday it has reached preliminary agreements to buy property from nearly one-third of the landowners along the planned route, including half of those in two counties where vocal opposition has been strongest.

Texas Central said they have reached option agreements with owners of about 30 percent of the necessary parcels in 10 counties. The option agreements bind property owners to selling the right of way for the train, with the company paying them now for the right to purchase the land once Texas Central has final federal approvals and the funding to build the line, estimated to cost $12 billion.

I counted 4 at the base. If they are working on the crown now, then they cut the two floors that are shown in the rendering below the crown off. From what I can tell that is the only difference. The rendering never had as many floors as the articles claimed the tower would have.

If I remember correctly, the original plan was 34, then two more floors were added right before construction started.

This one is looking a bit more shaky.

Two of Gov. Greg Abbott's three nominees to join the University of Texas System board of regents on Thursday criticized the system's move to buy considerable land in Houston for expansion during their confirmation hearing before a state Senate panel.

    Quote

The UT board of regents will ultimately need to approve McRaven's recommendations for use of the Houston land, and he said Thursday during a separate Senate finance committee hearing that he will wait until new regents join the board before bringing recommendations before the group. The Senate nominations panel will vote on the governor's three regent nominations on Feb. 2.

    Quote

Meanwhile, one of the nominees critical of the Houston project - Janiece Longoria, chair of the Port of Houston Authority and formerly a member of UT's advisory group for how to use the land - said she did not think UT's expansion in Houston "could ever be successful" without local lawmakers' support.

Longoria also said she's not in favor of using the Permanent University Fund - a massive source of funding from oil and gas holdings for UT and the Texas A&M University System that cannot be used by the UH system - for the Houston project. The UT spokeswoman said Longoria was part of the advisory group from March 2016 until leaving earlier this month due to "conflicting commitments."

Another of Abbott's regent nominees, former state Sen. Kevin Eltife, told the Senate nominations panel Thursday he wanted the Houston project "stopped."

"I want someone to explain to me how we spent $200 million on a piece of dirt and we don't know the use of it," he said.

The Kirby Collection is on schedule for a fourth quarter 2017 delivery.

A couple of new renderings in the article too.
