  1. I still don't get it...

Micro-units are typically less than 500 square feet and are geared toward a younger, single person. To make up for the small square-footage, the units have built-in storage space and are traditionally located in highly sought-after areas in the city.

East of downtown, desirable, sure... but mostly due to it's affordability and proximity to downtown.  This project would make a lot more sense in uptown, downtown, med-center, etc. places that aren't quite affordable to their target demographic.

  2. This is now 40% sold.

Two luxury condominium towers in the Galleria area have sold nearly half of their units despite being months away from completion.

Pelican Builders Inc. recently announced it has sold more than 40 percent of The Wilshire at River Oaks, a 17-story, 96-unit condo towerat 2049 Westcreek Ln. The Wilshire broke ground Aug. 4. An on-site sales center opened in late April.

Documents recently submitted to the city for the new residential project refer to it as "high-rise apartments."

Gregory said size of the building has not yet determined, nor has a construction schedule.

"This is a project that's ultimately going to deliver multiple years from now," he said.

He expects the project to be completed when the economy is in better shape. With many developers now pulling back amid the fallout in the energy industry, "we definitely believe bringing a product to market in the next couple of years is a good time," Gregory said.

“It’s been unanimously approved by our board and it’s moving very quickly,” McKeon, executive vice president, chief strategy officer and chief operating officer of the Texas Medical Center, said at an investor conference hosted by Midway, at Hotel Sorella in CityCentre.

A “collaborative development agreement” is expected to be completed soon, he added, and groundbreaking could start in the first quarter of next year.

“All in all, it’s about a $2 billion play,” McKeon said.

Construction on Evelyn’s park has officially begun and the 5-acres of land is now being primed for over 320 trees that have been donated to beautify the park.

Zelko in the park? It's coming to Bellaire.

Evelyn's Park Conservancy, the nonprofit public/private partnership overseeing the improvements of Evelyn's Park, 4400 Bellaire, has tapped Zelko Concepts as restaurant operator for a café proposed for the park project.

Jamie and Dalia Zelko, partners in Zelko Concepts (Zelko Bistro in the Heights, and the Heights HoneyBee Project) will operate the yet-unnamed restaurant. The park is currently under construction and is expected to be completed summer 2016.
