  1. Ha! They're probably sick of all of us driving around down there and speculating! Target doesn't want the HAIF crowd having any more information than the rest of Houston
  2. We haven't been in, but they were definitely busy every time we drove by. Maybe they didn't anticipate so much business after it took them so long to open
  3. Does anyone know what that steel building with the gazebo in front is? It's now up for sale... It would make a cool little restaurant.
  4. We drove by tonight on our way out. Weird slab, indeed. We sat there for a couple minutes and debated. Whatever I said, my husband had a viable reason why not and vice versa. He thought maybe a small garden center, but it's not tied in to the store. I brought up the water feature, but we could only see one possible plumbing line and it was not central to the space. Then there is one section that still has exposed rebar. Who knows... It will be interesting to see what it turns out to be.
  5. I can say that I would definitely shop downtown over Rice or the Galleria if more was available. For people who live Heights and midtown, going to the other shopping districts can be such a pain. Traffic is bad enough and then add parking in Rice Village or Highland Village. We got married at a hotel downtown and most of our out of town friends and family stayed at that location. All my east coast friends were so perplexed by the fact that there was nothing for them to do Sat during the day without going all the way across town. Most restaurants weren't even open. They ended up at Cabo, poor things!
  6. Sure, those things. Bagels, muffins, danish. Again, sort of like Dacapo's but open all weekend and before 10 am.
  7. Maybe we could start a letter writing campaign. I want gelato after my nice, long dinner. I do not want gelato for dinner (well, sometimes but I don't think my husband would allow it )
  8. I'd love to see a variety. I think a large Lupe Tortilla (or similar) would be good for young families. If they could rehab some old homes on busy streets like 6th and 11th, that would be cool. Those would make great sandwich shops or coffee houses with breakfast. There are some areas on the west side that could definitely use some development where they could build new. I have mentioned this before but I think the Heights needs 2 things: 1) A bakery/breakfast place. I like DaCapo's but their hours suck and they're breakfast selections are very limited. 2) A place for ice cream/ dessert- a cute gelato place or even an Amy's . I went to a place in Austin last weekend that had gelato and other deserts. THey had a nice patio area and it was packed at 9:30 pm. I think a place like that would do well in the 'hood.
  9. You look familiar ANyway, I was excited when DB first put the sign out, but there is something about how long this build out is taking that makes me very leery about eating there. They can't afford to get their place open; how do I know they're not going to try and recoup some losses by serving Grade D meat? Just a little fishy...
  10. RedScare is going to have to post the fabulous Louis Black quote about how he knew he had reached the end of the universe and it was in Houston. Why? B/c there are 2 Starbucks across the street from eachother. Too much is too much.
  11. I'm glad they are renovating to look close to the original.
  12. I'm not a huge fan of Colina's but we went to Thai Spice for the 1st time last night and it was great. The waiter left something to be desired- when my husband ordered brown rice, he brought Jasmine rice and then said he did that b/c he thinks the jasmine rice is better and Thai people don't eat brown rice. Otherwise, the food was better than expected...
  13. Haaa! Native, that was cute! China restaurant. That was some much needed comic relief for my very crappy day Has anyone been to Mardi Gras on Durham? It's the white building with all the beads... Someone I work with went there and liked it, but I don't know how much I trust his opinion.
  14. Patience, patience. Developers are obviously seeing the potential. Glasswall and Shade demontrate that not only will Heights residents welcome these types of establishments; people will come from other parts of the city for a good restaurant. As much as we would like to, we also can't forget that we'll soon have another new restaurant on the former Ashland's in The Heights lot.
  15. I agree. That area is already developing and people are talking about it. When the Target is up and running, the whole Washington corridor is going to explode. On the way to The Corkscrew the other night, my husband and I were laughing about how smart those people were who bought the 1st townhomes over there (the ones with the high brick wall in front). I'm sure everyone they knew told them they were crazy. Who looks crazy now?
  16. yeah- many people live in this area because there isn't an Applebee's anywhere within driving distance.
