San Antonio annexed a ton of land in the mid 2000's. Their city population is 1.3 million (2.23 metro). Now, compare that to Dallas... about +/- 6 million metro, Dallas' city population is 1.1 million.

The only one I know about it a place called the Roxy in Highland Village. It stayed open as a dance club into the 1980s.
Was it beating a dead horse by then? (Xanadu)

Are you talking about the public works building next to Bank of America Plaza? Or the one built in the 50's behind the surface lot behind 1 Shell?

This may be a little late in the 70's but where are all the Disco's? Particularly any Roller Disco's?

Hey Lockmat can we have another HAIF happy hour and you bring your iPad?

I like the Memorial City Skyline for what it is (A cluster of high rises around a shopping mall). Sure the buildings are mediocre, but they all work together. And the night time lighting has got any other skyline beat (of it's size in the Houston area).
-
Would have been the focal point of the skyline. Well ahead of it's time, looks like every skyscraper built in the 90's in Los Angeles.

Yes and across the street from our tallest. I mean we aren't Dallas for crying out loud. Just kidding. But if this project and the one on the Macy's lot don't come to fruitation it will be a huge let down. I have faith in this project though, it grew a couple floors.Skanska better get off the ground. Tearing down the Houston Club only to leave an empty lot, even if just for 5 years, would be a major disappointment.

It is a shame that they are so eager to redo the facade to completely change the look. After every old building is a shining blue glass box, what will they all become next? The different colors and textures make for a more aesthetic skyline/downtown. I'm not saying One Allen Center is a masterpiece of refined architecture... But why not put all that time, money, and effort to make the interiors state of the art? End of rant.

A European flat block from 2002. All kidding aside, it looks pretty funky and I really like it. It's very different from what we have seen recently.

Phillip Johnson's Pennzoil Place 1 & 2.
"Better" architecture is subjective. A list of award winning would be more appropriate.

I don't know which fate would be worse... To sit empty until further notice (ala Elm Place), or to be completely remodeled?

130. Key Club Fountain on Winrock Blvd.
131. Fairnont Apartments on San Felipe

The Design of this tower is simple, yet very striking. I can't wait to see the final execution of it. Although, I'm sure we all wish it was 200' taller, I'm glad it will be built.

No please don't change the going up section. I do love how when I click on HAIF (and automatically signed in, except on my iPhone for some reason), the pages I have read are not highlighted. Thumbs up. No need to split this up.

What argument do they have when there are 2 other high rises RIGHT there? Not to mention that faux french town house cluster****. It might just be the residences that are directly next to the property.
Edit: He should have built it on the west side of Kirby, the back of the houses on San Felipe look like crap... and then BAM, Kept up Mansions and River Oaks Country Club.

Yes. Seriously. It's a fountain. It's on the list. Get over it.
It's an embarrassment. Sorry the photo shows up rotated like that. When I posted it, it was normal.
Anyways, continue with your list, Just promise me you won't forget to add the royal blue colored water fountains found at the nearest put-put coarse near you.
P.S. Also please add the 2 story fountains in the Lobby of the Sawyer Heights Lofts.

I think that design wouldn't look so childish without the white balconies. Remove them, and it's actually a pretty cool building.

Seriously you are putting this on the list? I took fountain view today just for this thread.
Bow down in defeat world, this is your new Fountain God.

I don't see how this project has legs with just residential and parkscape (as is presented in that rendering), and not to mention the fact that there are plenty of brand new (or soon to be finished) apartments targetting the exact same demographic as depicted here all over the inner loop.
It could work with all residential, and perhaps a little bit of retail. Like half a cup.

New one to my lisr
Looks cool, but kinda Vegas-esque. in 2006.
-
Oh no... The carpet just took the design 30 years in the opposite direction.

It's still commercial, one of the local architecture firms visioned it as residential.
Amazing rendering. Still keeping it with the old traditional form, but I love the glass. The Balconies actually work as well. Someone put some real thought into this design.
