The line should fork from DFW to Downtown Fort Worth & Downtown Dallas, making IAH the first stop in Houston, with a stop Downtown, and in Galveston.

Grass in the painted green sections of the garage roofs would of been awesome.. Solar panels would of worked on top of practically every building in the campus (aren't all the buildings flat roofed).. It would of been a nice nod towards alternate energy having a major oil company (partially at least) power it's new campus with solar panels.. Too bad.
The Whole campus is such a waste. The buildings look like commie blocks, and it wouldn't be special if it weren't for the "gateway" building. But, I guess I should wait until the finished project to be so harsh on it.

Why wouldn't they plant some grass or put some solar panels up on their garage roofs?

I can dig the after 8 mint chocolate color scheme.

People talk trash about mayor Parker?? Heh, but seriously.. Besides the metro funding screw up what's to not like? She has done some incredible things for Houston, and especially the parks districts and downtown area... Without her downtown would continue to be a ghost town after 5..
Well it really started with Mayor Brown... but yes, she has done some wonderful things. Now only if she could fix these damn streets. I think I'll run for mayor and my slogan will be "No new pot holes EVER!"

This is absolutely wonderful news. I applaud the city for greasing the wheels and getting the ball rolling.

Just because a few office towers Downtown (International), might now get off the ground doesn't mean the demand isn't there for space elsewhere.

On light rail, I'm a bit shaken on all the people who want to add light rail down any major road corridor that has those wide medians in them.
(artist's interpretation)
If it went Down Memorial it could be the Median until the park, and sink underground after Shepherd and re-emerge IN the park, instead of ON Memorial, cut under 610, and make it's way to Post Oak.

The building will boast a long list of amenities for tenants.
An outdoor area on the ninth floor will have views of downtown, a swimming pool with private cabanas, grilling areas and a green lawn. Other perks will include 24-hour concierge services, business and fitness centers, a demonstration kitchen, a private dining room and a screening room.
So basically the same amenities as every apartment complex built in the loop since 2006? The few amenities the residents will use are nice, but you're basically paying more per month for all these wonderful things you'll probably never use, as well as the trainer in the gym, the Yoga/Pilates instructor, the holiday parties including the liquor reps, the chef to teach cooking courses, the wine sellers to have tasting parties. All while you're at work or coming home from a long day.

Are they going to get out of the 900-footer they built a few years ago?
Edit: Guess so. I'm not a huge fan of the design, and Norman Foster is about 10 years past his prime. It sort of fits their skyline but I usually don't get in a jealous rage when the only way they can beat us by Height is from a Spire. As far as I'm concerned the the US Bank Building in Los Angeles is the only one that has us beat outside of NYC & Chicago.

The only ones I feel bad for would be the Firefighters. There are Panhandlers on Broadway @ 610 & Wallisville @ East Beltway that will seriously knock on your window if you ignore them. And some of them are for Churches! Well, at least they pretend to be.
Edit: So I'm assuming this won't include Salvation Army & Girl Scouts on Private Strip Center property right? Damn...

The Pool is on the east side.

I never kept up with the club scene much as I was never much of a club person. I worked remotes from a few on assignment but never any in the Galleria area. There have been some mentions of Roxy here on HAIF, probably over in the Dining Shopping and Entertainment forum or possibly the Historic Houston forum, depending on how far back. Have you used search?
First the Roxy, Then Hush, and now Drink Houston.
I can't imagine how Richmond looked back in the day, it looks to be an empty shell of it's former self. Even the Pappasitos is crappy.

That or one of Houston's other emerging urban neighborhoods, rather than the boondocks of Fountain View.
Yup we aint got no fancy buildings round here.

Well that's certainly underwhelming..
Ditto. Infill is infill though, it's nothing fabulous. But will have good views when 'Free Tibet' protesters march outside of the Chinese Consulate.

Screenshot... Which side is this from?
Looking North on I-45 South I would assume. I don't think it's an exact picture but I can place every major skyscraper in the shot.

Isn't The Eagle currently downtown, near Market Square? I guess they're moving then.
I hope not! I sure do like Sunday Night Discoing Downtown. Although Kryptonite is kinda gross. 611 Played good music, but it reminds me of the pirate bar in Galveston, like a hoarder's wet dream. Junk and cheap stuff everywhere.

If that were correct then why did Chevron just buy another plot of land downtown? Does not compute, sorry.
I guess we won't know until something official is announced (or until swstig says so). It would be a huge shame, but I highly doubt Downtown will empty out of all our major Energy Companies. While a suburban campus is nice, why would Chevron, after buying all these towers & property Downtown, suddenly want to sell and evacuate to the far northern exurbs? And as per other reputable sources on this site saying that Chevron is looking for other space at Camp Strake (labs?). Of course every company will have many different offices around town. No major company will be 100% located in one single spot.
Edit: It's the sum of all fears that Shell & Chevron abandon Downtown and leave us with a HUGE amount of space to be absorbed. Would probably take us a decade to come back from something like that. Conversion to condos? haha jk.
Before the panic spreads why don't we wait for an announcement?

When will the Dream's Car Wash lot be redeveloped? I feel like this area is exploding with development.

I wonder if this second skyhouse will top out before the Sovereign?

While that the last idea may or may not be true, I do believe it will be more than difficult for resident Houstonians to pull themselves from the idea that this cityis more than halfway through its peak and that the entire energy sectror is retreating.
Thank you for giving us the only two possible options in the universe.

Does anyone know if there are existing train rights-of-way between Houston and Dallas that could be utilized? It seems the cost of having to acquire the right-of-way could be a deal killer.
It shouldn't be too expensive. at least once you get north of the Houston suburbs. South of Dallas isn't as issue as there is almost nothing until Downtown.

All construction documents set in place for this one to begin:
I feel like every time this building is proposed it's at the tail end of our mini boom cycle. Or maybe it was only once before, but I could swear this thing has been cancelled twice.

I'm actually a little happy it's not just a solid glass building. I think the different facades will blend in nicely with the palates of colors in the area. Also, not having as much ground floor retail might be beneficial to the retail spaces that already exist. Baby steps...

Light Rail could take an hour or longer. Besides, the high-speed rail will have existing space for luggage.
