  1. Truck parked on the sidewalk I guess that's an improvement over being parked in the bike lane when I rode by the other day
  2. What would be more appropriate here? Something that is office only that's 3ish stories with at-grade only parking?
  3. Was looking at the planning commission agenda and came upon this interesting project. Looks like Swamplot did a write up about it with far more/better detail than I was going to provide. Cool project! Love that they are integrating ground level retail although it's kind of an awkward spot. http://swamplot.com/heres-an-8-story-office-and-apartment-complex-for-heights-studewood-low-point-on-white-oak-bayou/2018-06-04/ ENGINEERING firm The Interfield Group is hoping to score a trio of variances that will allow it to swap out its existing dingbat office building (above) at the Heights landing point of the Studemont St. bridge for a much larger mixed-usedevelopment (depicted at top) dubbed Heights Gateway. The new 8-story complex rests on the stealth-bomber-shaped parcel at 401 Studewood outlined in the aerial above. It’s split between a residential portion (shown beneath the lettering in the rendering) and a glass curtain-walled office section to the north β€” all of which rests atop a floodable 2-story parking garage plinth. Its lowest parking level β€” indicated in the site plan below β€” includes a main entrance off Studewood that runs between the work and live sections of the complex:
  4. That's looking like it's gonna open right in time for winter.
  5. I actually don't feel comfortable biking on it because I think the only drivers that drive on Main are lost, and I don't want dumb drivers with no way to pass me safely being behind me.
  6. I think there is a church that has 1 or 2 Main-facing handicap spots that they use for dropoffs as well. I went the whole route on google street view a year or so ago and I think the net loss of parking spaces is like 9ish for the entire run. There is a gas station that uses Main as it's major thoroughfare as well. Basically, a shockingly small amount of negative effect to close that much of a road through the heart of the urban core.
  7. So pedestrians and bikers can use it without getting run over by cars. We have no dedicated north/south bike lane, and this could run from the Museum District all of the way to the north edge of downtown.
  8. (new thread, or is this one ok?) $30 million renovation in process after Harvey related damages http://houston.culturemap.com/news/real-estate/05-16-18-omni-hotel-houston-renovations-reservations-open-date/#slide=0
  9. And now we should continue the development of Main Street, and close it to cars! Convert the driving lines to bike lanes!
  10. I see it now. You're right, it'll have it's own ramp that bypasses 59. Makes sense.
  11. Looking at the map, I'm kind of confused how you would go from say, Minute Maid Park, to get on 288. The only on-ramp I see is would be Webster, and 288 splits off before that.
  12. Allyn West: Will the new Bagby be the best street in Houston? https://www.houstonchronicle.com/local/gray-matters/article/bagby-street-redesign-pedestrian-bicycle-lane-12913394.php
  13. They posted a few more pics on Twitter. Looks like it's coming along great!
  14. "Harvey stuff" from what I understand. The Rebuild Houston interactive map is down right now, so I can't tell you exactly what year.
  15. Even for 1 person, the big issue I have is that there is only 1 train per day, and airfare is comparable in price when booked more than 21 days in advance. I would like to try it out some day though.
  16. That's just sewer work from my understanding. No road reconfiguration is happening.
  17. That was a Midtown TIRZ rendering. I contacted them to ask if there was a timeline, funding, etc and they said no timeline and no funding at this point. Just something they would like to see. I specifically asked if it was something we could see with the new Harris County funds for this year and they said no. Edit: Also, Alabama reconstruction has been pushed to like '21 or '22 based on rebuild Houston funding website
  18. I mean.... is any effort really worth it at this point? Who the hell is going to be connecting from say New Orleans to Dallas? It'll take like 10 hours!
  19. Saw this in the presentation. When it says "Trails in Progress" what does that mean exactly? That they have plans/funds and are waiting to start? The little corner in the bottom left of the map on Holman is separated bike lane that is complete for a whole block, but none of Brazos is done to my knowledge and it's marked the same color. Are the dotted blue line projects imminent in their start?
  20. Cmon everyone, lets have a little faith here. It's been covered up for decades. They're going to tweak it for sure. I'm sure the first rendering will turn some of you back from wanting to flatten it.
  21. Glassell School of Art to open to public with a party on May 20 from noon to 4 pm. http://glasstire.com/2018/05/09/new-glassell-school-of-art-to-open-with-a-big-party/ List of opening day activities: https://www.mfah.org/calendar/celebrating-community-opening-day/201805201200PM Definitely going to make it down for this!
  22. Oops! Missed that. @Urbannizer Should this thread just go away?
  23. http://houston.culturemap.com/news/real-estate/05-09-18-bustling-downtown-houston-street-to-be-transformed-into-a-walkable-bike-friendly-corridor/?utm_source=sf_twitter This is great! This may hurt traffic a bit after theater shows, but they can deal with it imho. Edit: Asked one of the planners on Twitter for a timeline, and he said 1 year for design and 2 years for construction.
  24. I reverse commute to Humble and I can assure you it's the best highway in Houston
