  1. When is the last time you received medical care, if ever? Most doctors and nurses in TMC are foreign-born from countries with far more conservative beliefs than the United States. To think doctors are leaving Houston due to state politics is a joke.
  2. Isn’t this The Wortham fountain? I’m actually impressed how many beautiful fountains downtown Houston has! Every time I go to the Houston Botanic Garden (for which I pay to be a member) their main fountain is ALWAYS not working! Now that is something to complain about!
  3. Went here for lunch today. The barbacoa tacos were the best I've had in a while. This place is back in the rotation!
  4. I was at the medical center during the recent heavy rains but I saw a picture on twitter where White Oak bayou had spilled over the walking trails. Does anyone know how the corner of White Oak and Houston avenue fared? That intersection has flooded several times in the past.
  5. Driving south on Montrose you can start to envision how beautiful this building is going to look with the Museum Tower in the not too distant background, downtown to the left, and the American General tower to the right. It's going to be a gorgeous skyline driving down Montrose!
  6. From RNR... Where The Boss Lives: Could LyondellBasell’s Exit From Downtown Be Influenced by Proximity to the CEO’s Residence? This doesn't surprise me and I guess it is neither good nor bad. I'm convinced that HPE relocated to the Woodlands from San Jose because CEO Antonio Neri owns a home in The Woodlands. Tough break for Downtown but it will have to adapt to residential to survive.
  7. Wasn’t the Lyondell building recently renovated downtown?
  8. It’s a small world. I was on several financial audits of Newpark Ship Building in the early 1990s. It was an interesting business model to audit.
  9. Dang! That is a blow to Central Houston, Inc. and not good for downtown...😒
  10. It may be time to say goodbye. I went the other day for breakfast. The food was sub-par and the floor was filthy. Let the market dictate what happens next... 😒
  11. Their baked goods are pretty good but they get an “F” for friendliness. I stopped going to the one on Studewood…not worth the hassle of parking nearby.
  12. I read recently that Houston is getting more matches for the 2026 World Cup than originally anticipated…do you know anything about that?
  13. Dallas' American Airlines Center getting a renovation.. "As American Airlines Center nears its 22nd birthday this summer, work is underway to greatly enhance fan experience and comfort, with the Mavericks and Stars splitting the $18.5 million bill. For the first time since 2009, AAC not only will get a new LED Center Hung Display, but four curved and angled underbelly screens with 360-degree video capability. Together the Center Hung and underbelly screens will create a 55%-larger viewing area than the current center video boards. All 19,134 of the arena’s original seats are being replaced with better-cushioned and ergonomically improved seats that also are resistant to spills, stains and cuts." https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/mavericks/2023/04/18/american-airlines-center-in-dallas-getting-major-upgrades-new-video-boards-seats/?sailthru_id=62681630c37a8b7a1180197a&utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=TicketTicker_04192023&utm_term=Ticket Ticker
  14. That would be good. It's interesting...the picture of the building on March 1st with the red brick facade looks better than how the building looks today. 🤷‍♂️
  15. Any idea what this will be? There is cloth fencing around the property. It's a prime location right next door to Coltivare.
  16. Memorial Park will be home to the Houston Open at least until 2028. The tournament dates have been moved to the Spring in 2024 but there are conflicting reports of whether it will be a PGA designated tour event or not. Channel 11 reports that it will. Mark Berman says it will not. I'd put my money on Mark Berman.
  17. If we do get hockey back I hope they can revive the Aeros name! I have great memories of them playing at the Summit...Gordie Howe...Jerry Trupiano on play-by-play...great childhood memories...
  18. Top of the building starting to peer through the trees on the White Oak trail...
  19. You know, I think you might be right. Case in point…The Houston Botanic Garden…first it took decades to actually open and now it is developing at a snail’s pace. There is literally nothing to see there (after 2 1/2 years)…It makes me mad when I compare it to the Dallas Arboretum and Fort Worth Botanic Gardens.
  20. Really? You think that’s a charming look? If they aren’t needed take them off!
  21. Do they really need all those burglar bars?? If so, says something about progress of the area…
  22. I rode my bike recently to The Highline and was really impressed with the number of people walking on the paths (I had to weave in and out of people walking). When I got to the Highline the park across the street was full of people playing in the field. The city has done a great job with all the bayou trails. I think the bike paths on the roads, however, are underutilized and inefficient but I understand that was a prerequisite to getting federal funds. I do appreciate the bike islands for crossing the streets though.
  23. Could be that those radio hosts were stuck at NRG away from the action? Does anyone know where the media stayed? I guess it was Westwood One Radio that covered all the games. Remember the group of teams playing did not make a buzz nationally. Apparently the men’s final 4 was the opposite of the women’s final 4 where Caitlin Clark was the undisputed star of the tournament. The announcers said they felt like they were defending the men’s college game all week. The announcer made the comment in that context…said he could not get a feel for the excitement about the men’s games. This was about 2:00 Saturday afternoon before the gates were open at NRG. I saw a tweet today that the games were a windfall for the city of Houston…so there’s that.
  24. Surprised this hasn’t been brought up… seems he thinks SJL is the front runner and not Whitmire! From The Chronicle Tony Buzbee, the millionaire businessman and trial attorney who unsuccessfully challenged Mayor Sylvester Turner in 2019, is considering another run for City Hall's top job. Buzbee on Wednesday said supporters are urging him to run again, and he believes he is the only candidate who can defeat U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who told church parishioners last week that she would run. He emphasized, though, that he has not made a decision yet.
