  1. It sure looks like it snowed.

Ross Perot has been promoting an office tower of undetermined height in downtown Dallas, saying there are prospects from out of town he's trying to entice. If they're looking for new buildings, this one's as good as any.

Yea, that's what we've been talking about.U a Lil late to the party broda. j/k :D

Unfortunately, we only get little snippets of info here and there. HOK has finished preliminary designs supposedly and now Ross wants a contest of architects to see unique design. I personally want a 1,200 foot replica of Voltron. But that's just me. I'm confident he'll choose whats good for the city. We dont know if it will be 300m or taller. Who knows it could be taller or shorter. We want a supertall to call our own but if not they should at least make it taller than the BOA(921ft)

If they kept it SLIM they could easily hit that 300m(992ft). Did you know the BOA in Dallas is actually bigger than the Wells Fargo in Houston?....Square footage wise?. Yet the Wells fargo is taller because its slimmer.. They need to that with Dallas' next.

Yes its snowed yesterday! A whole 1.5 inches so of course the whole city had to shut down.

I took a couple of pictures. Im glad it did. Thought we werent gonna get any this year. It might snow again later this week.

  2.

Saw this on SSC. People going crazy over there.

Its good to finally hear some info on this. You think this thing deserves its own thread as the wheels start turning? :D

“That site is totally tied to an anchor tenant"

Does this mean he already has a tenant?

  3. Four more towers for Victory Park

    http://bizbeatblog.dallasnews.com/2015/02/four-more-towers-in-the-works-for-dallas-victory-park-project.html/

And it looks like Houston is leading the attack on Dallas! lol

The biggest of the new developments in the works at Victory Park is a 28-story apartment tower planned at the north end of the development at Hi Line Drive and Houston Street.Called Katy Station, the building is being designed by Houston-based architect EDI International, according to filings with the Federal Aviation Administration.

The apartment tower would be built a block north of where Houston-based Camden Property Trust is now building a 423-unit apartment community on the north side of the American Airlines Center arena.

Further south at Victory Avenue and Museum Way, Victory Park manager Estein & Associates and Florida-based Lennar Multifamily Communities are expected to announce plans soon for a building with a movie theater and retail on the lower levels and apartments above.

The project will be close to 20 stories and will occupy a block now used for parking.

The planned apartment tower will be right across the street from where Houston-based developer Hines and Cousins Properties are about to break ground on a 23-story office building called Victory Center. The 466,000-square-foot high-rise will take almost two years to build.

And Atlanta-based Novare Group – which just completed its 24-story, 336-unit SkyHouse Dallas apartments at at 2320 N. Houston St. – has filed plans with the city that show it wants to build a second, similar building at Victory Park. The next Novare building would be constructed next to the American Airlines Center parking garage at Houston and Payne streets.

Together all these new projects will be the largest addition to Victory Park since construction started on the 75-acre mixed-use development in 1999.

This all sounds great to me but Im still waiting to hear news about the 600ft Victory Tower. Here's hoping the market will be strong enough to get that sucker built. :D

  4. Nice pics, Jasno.  The one of Dallas Trinity Trails -- with all the antennae -- reminds me of the view from west Austin, across the Colorado toward Westlake Hills, except a lot greener!

The winter shots are also impressive ... never saw Dallas like that!

Yep I really like the Austin area hill country. This photo was taken on the Dallas/Cedar Hill border. I believe those antennae are on the Cedar Hill side.

Yea those are good winter shots too. We usually get snow at least once a winter but only a few inches at most. Of course we had a "blizzard" during the Super Bowl a few years ago. :D Visiting celebs complained that they thought North Texas was supposed to be sunny lol

Check this nice aerial vid out with the city under "snow"

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57jDSXk9Q84

We've had NO snow this winter which is dissappointing. I hoping it doesnt foreshadow a scorcher this summer.:/

    .

  5. Huh? I don't see the fountain place resemblance at all..

Its not a striking resemblance but its the straight lines set at angles.\|\ Similar diamond cut theme. No curves. I dont know any other bldg that would look like its related to FP

Just a subjective observation. Different colored glass though.

  6. Dallas and Houston both... why are all of the new designs so boxy??  UGH someone needs to be more dramatic with our shapes!!

I agree. Some I like though like the one Hines is bldg in Victory Park(Victory center) Its on this thread.

But yes I want bolder designs like they're doing all over the world. Like Moscow's new ones and many others in Europe and Asia.

Maybe we'll get some better ones in the future.

  7. I'll believe it when I see the cranes.  Emporis removed the two 70 floor proposed buildings.  What is going on up there?

Yes me too. I know what you mean but I dont think those 70-80 floor supertalls every got as far as applying for FAA approval so its fun to get excited about this new one. Is Emporis truly accurate? Because its still showing the 696ft Lexi as proposed.:/ :o

That would be crazy for us to have a 700foot in Uptown.

It would be our little "Williams Tower" LOL

I opened an account to get more details on developments but it wouldnt let me get more. I think it wanted me to buy some crap to get "researcher" info ^_^

  8. This is definitely going to be an interesting addition. Im just not sure how much of an allure a holocaust center will be. It should do well and bring out many visitors from all over the country(world). Probably many from the Jewish communities.

I personally just wouldn't be compelled to visit. If Im out enjoying the day Id rather go to the Perot museum,Dallas world aquarium,Klyde Warren(was there yesterday)...etc.

No disrespect intended. Who knows maybe it would be interesting visit.

As far as the building. It looks great.

  9. I'm curious if oil prices will affect the DFW market any?  Yes, you guys aren't nearly as reliant upon commodities for your economy - but part of one of the major shale plays is actually IN the DFW metroplex!

Youre pretty much right from what I've heard about that. Dallas is basically a glorified swap meet and started out as an Indian trading post. The only thing that's changed is the technology and how it gets here.

Yea the shale thing has made a huge impact and Dallas has always been a center in the oil industry though Im assuming not as big a player in it as Houston.

Houston should be okay. Energy isnt the only industry in that town. :D

  10. Via Naghi12 on SkyscraperCity:

Another building redeveloping. Broke ground on Tuesday 11:00 a.m.
    http://www.dallasnews.com/business/commercial-real-estate/headlines/Basic20150113-downtown-dallas-one-main-place-tower-will-house-new-westin-hotel.ece

Dallas is getting a ton of new retail, residential, and hotel spaces within downtown. By 2016-2020, downtown will have tremendous value, more residents, a big boost of retail space, more restaurants, entertainment areas, museums, and have more observation areas for the public. Hopefully, we will get new light rail and streetcars around the downtown to accommodate the new HSR line, and also new parks to beautify the area. We will probably see our offices fill up as more companies will want to relocate to a vibrant downtown. I'm excited about the turnout of all this.
