  1. Question: When was the Chase logo placed on the Chase Tower there? Not a huge fan. One of the better sky lobbies out there, though access has been awkward in recent years from my experience.

     

    I dont know but I kinda like the logo. Tacky maybe to some though. By the way I went to my gf's high school prom in that sky lobby. It was awesome! :)

    Hall Financial has topped out its new downtown Dallas office tower.

    The KPMG Plaza is under construction in the Arts District between Ross Avenue and Flora Street.

    The 18-story, 500,000-square-foot office high-rise will open in April.

    Major tenants in the building include accounting firm KPMG and Dallas law firm Jackson Walker LP.

    The building was designed by Dallas architect HKS. Turner Construction is the general contractor.

    KPMG Plaza is the tallest multi-tenant office project built in downtown

    A new Uptown office tower has landed an important business tenant.

    An international family investment firm has leased the top floor of the new Frost Tower, which is being built on McKinnon Street near the south entrance to the Dallas North Tollway.

    The Rochon Family Office has rented almost 9,500 square feet on the 22nd floor of the new highrise, which will open next spring. The tenant also has an option to take additional space.

    Rochon joins Frost Bank as the first tenants in the 167,000-square-foot office project being built by developer Harwood International.

    John Rochon Jr. said the new Uptown location will support the family firm’s long-term growth. Its office is now located in Plano.

    “Our world headquarters is going to reflect not only what we have built over the last 25 years but even more importantly what we are in the process of building now and for generations to come,” Rochon said. “We want our company to attract the very finest professional talent, especially in specialized areas such as finance and accounting.

    “We know that having our headquarters located in the heart of the city is tremendously appealing.”

    I wish I could change the title of this thread to just New Dallas development. Instead of just specifying Downtown. Got myself boxed in.

     

    Anyways some interesting news:

    Developer wants to build a 37 story residential high rise in the Fair Park area. in South Dallas It would be the first of its kind since Southside seems is always neglected. It'd be awesome to finally see a tower(s) over there! Here's the story with video. Hope they can make it happen

    As long as we don't demolish aging buildings, there is opportunity for cool things to happen alongside new construction.  That's an asset, especially in the Sunbelt, where there are few such neighborhoods.

     

    Agreed. I think both Houston and Dallas can agree that we wished we could have that beautiful anitiquity and architecture that they have on the East coast.  UGH!

    Of it course. Houston has more and bigger throughout the city. Its the true Texas skyscraper city.  It ranks higher on the Raime ratings at number #4 but Dallas is nipping at Los Angeles' heels at #6 which Im proud of.

    Of course these change a lot. There's developments all over the country. Im just glad Texas has such great cities.

    Though Dallas is the third most populous*cough*..... I consider Houston and Dallas to be the New York and Chicago of Texas. :D

  7. WOW!!!! 3 new buildings in downtown dallas!!!! 18, 5 and 4 stories tall AND in the rest of the city 12 others between 5-24 floors and maybe even including the goliath 33-story Blue Seal soon?

     

    Man. Why can't Houston ever build anything or think BIG?!?! God damn it!! I know I speak for everyone in Houston when I say we are sooooooooooo jellous of all the construction up there. We don't got nothing. Congratulations dallas for your wonderful majestic feat. I think you can see Downtown dallas from El Paso now!!!

     

    y'all should go to the New York and Chicago websites and tell them that dallas is going to be bigger and better than they are pretty soon and that they better watch out because dallas is architecturally more significant since more big buildings are being built in dallas than up there in those rust belts. Keep us posted so that we know what it's like to live in the big city where big pretty buildings are being built. Houston is lucky if they just update the local Dairy Queen.  :angry2:

     

    Thank you MetroWest! I know its difficult with all of our success here. Hey dont feel bad about the Dairy Queen. They have some great food! I heard they updating the Houston location with a new unisex bathroom for transgender people. That way you wont have to be confused anymore. Hurray!

  8. Blue Ciel (wonder the pronuciation?)... looks somewhat similar to the one time proposed 2nd Residential Highrise at Regent Squre at the former Allen House location off Allen Parkway.

     

    And like many in Houston - while I'd love to see a masterpiece of tall architecture - I'm happy with the quality Hines is currently putting out there in all their buildings.  Not grand/world beating architecture, but significant and relevant, and quality.  Houston and Dallas are similar in that both have seen plenty of mediocre architecture (like any big city) over the years.  Dallas' Theater/Museum District area is really moving forward with nice architecture - even if I feel that some of those architects are purely around for flashy/neighborhood clashing designs (OMA... pretty much anything Foster does etc.)

     

     

    I believe its pronounced like "Blue Seal". Spelt Bleu Ciel. :]

     

    I didnt know it looked like the bldg you mentioned. Gonna have to check that out. I know the Dallas Skyhouse looks just like the Houston Skyhouse or whatever its name is. Haha.

    Thanksgiving Tower in Dallas looks almost exactly like Minneapolis' tallest bldg. :D

    Copycat architecture everywhere in multiple cities.

    Hall Arts Tower.  An 18-story office building.

    Fairfield West End.  A 5-story apartment building.

    Alta Farmers Market  (not sure if these have actually started construction yet).   a 4-story apartment building

     

     

    If you use the expanded definition of downtown Dallas (to include Uptown and other adjacent areas, you get to add:

     

    SkyHouse.  24-story apartment building.

    McKinney & Olive.   23 story office building.

    Uptown Plaza.  23 story apartment building.

    Frost Tower.  22 story office building.

    One Dallas.  20 story apartment building.

    Richards Group HQ.  18 story office building.

    Alexan Skyline.  10 story apartment building on top of parking garage.

    1900 Cedar Springs.  9 story apartment building on top of existing 5 story parking garage.

    Gables McKinney Ave.   8 story apartment building.

    Routh Street Flats.  7 story apartment building.

    Camden Victory Park.  5 story apartment building.

    Yes the cranes are part of the skyline right now. haha. You can see them from my area in Northeast Dallas.

     

    Some of those I didnt even know about. We should be able to add the 33 story Bleu Ciel soon. Not sure when they are breaking ground. Should be soon :}

  10. Philadulphia is just so wonderfully great. I hope dallas can be as good as that one day in the far off distant future so that when people go there they say "wow, this so international and is better than New York and Chicago put together". Damn. We can dream can't we? Everything is the rad bomb. Cool.

     

    :lol: This is my hometown so of course I want it to be the best it can be. Our skyline will never come close to Chicago's at least not in my lifetime unless there is some freakish boom period lol. However there IS a TON of land in South Dallas that we are not using. And Dallas is bigger than Chicago land-wise(Houston is bigger!) I do dream of our skyline streching into parts of that (without spoiling our huge urban forest down there). Also West Dallas may see growth next.

     

    We already are a great city and are THE trading post of the region.. that's how we got started in the first place. We have no water port but still did well. Just like Atlanta. Same thing with them. We are still growing and its actually caused some Dallasites to move OUT of Dallas because its becoming too much. My half-sister is one of them. She moved to Tyler for a slower pace. We (and Houston) have the craziest drivers but take a careful look at their license plates they're usually "foreign" Haha.

     

    But I've learned a city is more than a bunch of skyscrapers. Its more complicated than that. But you never know.....all I can say is be careful what you wish for....you might just get it. :o

  12. I think that map is missing a lot of their projects. Dallas' uptown/downtown area has a couple years head start on our downtown area. They have a lot of recently completed and under construction projects while most of ours are just starting. However, most of theirs are in the 20-story range while we have a couple proposed/under construction at or above 40-stories.

     

    Agreed. There are many towers going up in uptown as well as our Cityplace area. Most of these are in the 20 to 25 something story range. Which is kinda a bummer but we are building density leading into downtown which looks great. (Think Philadelphia style but with modern buildings).

    All beautiful bldgs just shorter.

     

    The tallest approved thing we have going up is the Bleu Ciel in uptown at 33 stories. Of course that's just approved. There are many others proposed of course. The one Im excited about is of the potential monster tower Ross Perot Jr is trying to build.
