  1. The center of population is moving north and west. But yes, the physical center won't change unless we annex some land for the city. The urban area is also trending northwest. The metro area is the sane as Washington county in the NW was added and San Jac in the east was dropped
  2. I've said it already and I'll say it again, traffic alone won't get drivers unto rail. A one-two punch is needed. We need to stop making parking so convenient in the core. 1. Go easy on parking requirements. We Don't need these huge parking structures on new condos in the core. 2. 45, 59/69 and 288 should be like 290 and dead end at 610. Hardy can stay. 3. Improve rail and bus coverage in the core. 4. Commuter rail along each major corridor 5. Rail passes should be more accessible and transferable to other transit options. Its stupid that rail passes don't transfer to buses. Anyway, it doesn't matter how many miles of rail you put in, it won't matter unless its more expensive to drive. Ask Dallas. They have a million and three miles of rail but ridership fluctuates with gas prices
  3. Duh, it has the second number is spots because it has the second highest number of workers etc. Facts are facts you just don't want to see it.
  4. Im no terrorist, I'm in no rush to demolish anyone's homes. But like I said, I won't mind seeing them flattened. There's a difference, dont twist my words
  5. Come on dude. It's common sense. 28k parking spots? Really?? To service 100,000 employees and tens of thousands patients visitors and students? You ask for stats, but your info speaks for itself 28,000 spots account for only a 1/7 of the people in TMC. Their website state that TMC hosts 168,000 people a day. I'm not incorrect on this. TMC rail Stops are more heavily used than other stops because of the low number of parking spots. Save your snappy comments. I don't know what delusion you are living under, TMC rail usage is high because of forced parking out of the district. Even looking at the parking Map, it shows that only about 7 of the 16 garages are deep in TMC. The rest are on the edges (fannin, Holcomb) or outside of that area. Compare that to Downtown. 100,000 parking spots. that is a 1 to 1.5 ratio of parking to workers. The ratio is 1 to 5 for TMC (1 to 7 counting students, patients etc). Downtown definitely could take a page out of TMCs book
  6. How will West creek and it's neighbors affect Afton Oaks? Its a charming neighborhood, but I wouldn't mind if it wasn't there. Its one area I wouldn't mind seeing large scale demolition of all those period homes. I felt dirty saying that. I need a shower now.
  7. I dunno, the sweet thing about the international tower was that it was tall and blocked off a lot of the squareness of Chase. I don't mind a tall building if it fits in well with the surroundings. The rough sketches of the Hines residential seemed to do that. Anyway, Houston office workers are mole people anyway. They won't be overruning Market Square. See, when I recommended that Houston needed a "real" square people thought I was crazy. "Why does it have to have a lot of hardspace" they said. Now they are complaining about all the people killing the grass. Lol. why can't we have a variety of spaces?
  8. Apart from that hideous glass monkey wrench, that is a nice shot. The different color architecture is interesting. Even the parking garage is more appealing to me than that glass monster. Hmmm, I guess 609 main will make the monkey wrench fit in better and push all these intersesting buildings closer to the wrecking ball as New will be what fits in.
  9. Its not just about people getting hit. Uptown isn't as pedestrian friendly because of how is was built. 1. Each building was built as a destination with little regard to what's next to it. Street level integration and activity is some foreign notion there. 2. The size of the lots makes getting from independent island to independent island harder. 3. Apart from getting hit, waking doesn't provide a visually appealing experience. Downtown for example is turning around with more of a push towards storefronts in New buildings. In uptown, you dodge cars, huge ugly parking lots, lots of blank walls. The trees do help though. Houston does trees well. 4. With all the residential around uptown, entertainment options are rather low. Abd not just stuff for adults. There is a shortage of parks and stuff for kids. Downtown has the aquarium, the zoo is a short two miles away on the rail, plus there are tons of parks all around. Anyway as is Houston custom, there is nothing like uptown anywhere else in Texas. Are of or skylines are unique. Nothing as big with as many amenities as Downtown Houston anywhere in Texas. Nothing anywhere near TMC in Texas. And Uptown is just a beast. Driving down 610 that place already makes San Antonio look like a tiny town. If that thing fills in it will be a monster.
  10. Hughes landing Would be interesting. Close to the main campus, but not actually in the campus. I don't know why Any company would want to stay in DFW anyway. Lol, that should all move here
  11. Im with urbanizer. If this isn't TW uptown would be my next guess. I guess I would be happy with that.
  12. A Spread out Dubai? Like Dubai s towers are not spread out in random places? Dubai builds more in line with Houston than NY when it comes to layout. Give them their due, they do have style. The developments are usually cutting edge
  13. That arched walkway is so sexy. If they had demolished this building I would have exploded
  14. Okay, now that is sexy. Definitely works be a game changer in the pedestrian outlook for uptown
  15. I will be walking to blvd place too. Its a welcomed change in development style. I'm happy that you are with me on walking in the area, but just because there are gay republicans doesn't mean republicans are gay friendly and just because me and you walk around uptown doesn't mean uptown is pedestrian friendly. We are just used to it. Its not just westheimer, its also post oak, richmond, 610... the main parts of Uptown. We need dozens of Blvd places. Its a start but just a chip in the Office Parkburg
  16. I agree, an in addition, The east side is more wet, more swampy, and the big storms seem to pass on the eastern side more often
