I wonder if there could be water taxis between here and downtown
Bingo. The downtown dock would naturally be Allens Landing. Have a dock (or two, this site is pretty long) here for the new development, and another at the turning basin where the Maritime Museum is supposed to go (the plan is for the museum to be the launching point of the ship channel boat tour, so a water taxi connection would help link more people to the museum/tour).- 4

The New York Times gave our Marriott Marquis a shout out.
The business of constructing all this Texas-shaped stuff is serious business. In downtown Houston, a swarm of people have been designing, building and tinkering with the Texas-shaped lazy river at the Marriott Marquis Houston, which opens in November. The 140,000-gallon river forms the outline of a rooftop terrace shaped like Texas. The terrace and river cost roughly $10 million to build.

They may think that there are people who are not aware that bayous are rivers. And judging by the reaction of some on this board, they are apparently correct.
I'm pretty sure people on this board are aware that a bayou is a "slow moving river", but that doesn't change the fact that the body of water that this property is on is called Buffalo Bayou, not Buffalo River. Either way I'm happy about the planned development.

^^^ what on earth is with this EAST RIVER moniker? "river?" a mile away from downtown houston is simply ridiculous! what not just go with BAYOU EAST?
silly season indeed......
Admittedly i dont understand the "east river" moniker either. A ) it's not a "river". b ) it sounds too much like an NYC rip off.

But more on the subject of KBR. Well, tangentially related to KBR. I was under the layman's impression the realignment would 1) double up the roads along where 69 is, thus further obstructing the KBR site, and was 2) not a done deal? Anyone?True. Last I heard the realignment was still up in the air, though it seemed like txdot was leaning heavily towards the realignment. I'm not sure "obstruction" would be much of an issue though?
On a somewhat related side note, I had mentioned in the past that I hoped whoever developed this property would implement some sort of bayou transportation connecting the site with Allens Landing/downtown. They could be a midpoint stop between Allens Landing and the proposed Maritime museum at the turning basin.

What is the arched roof structure?

The pool deck should have a great view of downtown. I wonder if the larger balcony recessed on the top floor will be a common area?

I'm sure it will be haf in the summer time.
Yeah, I too was thinking a black pool deck would get hot. Maybe they are covering that surface with something else?
Does the lobby section of the hotel jut out into the courtyard any? Or is the courtyard really just that narrow through there? Looking at it while driving by on Fannin it looks like the new lobby area juts out into the courtyard. Maybe its just more narrow than i remember/im getting it confused with the width of the wider middle segment? -

We are pleased to announce that CVS/Pharmacy will be coming soon to Market Square Tower. This new urban store concept will offer grab & go prepared foods, fresh produce and healthier snack options…right at your doorstep! Stay tuned for more updates.
"Grocery store" does seem like a bit of a stretch, but there will be some options, none the less. Maybe Aris will get a legit grocer? Seems like they hoped to sign one.- 1

I wonder if Day For Night will use any of the bomb shelters for their art installations. Would make for a unique environment.- 1

Agreed Tiger.. I had hoped they might do that, given the green space shown in the initial conceptual renderings. All of the barren flat roof tops in our urban areas are so much wasted potential.

Those were installed sometime back in the spring. Between the trees and the streetlights, this corridor is starting to create its own identity..

Maybe one of those facade example walls?

At this point, I believe neither wants it: Culberson doesn't want rail going down Richmond, and Uptown management doesn't want rail down post oak. I believe the reason for the latter is that businesses would "be hurt by the construction", and the fear of the bus lane is that its a precursor to rail. The controversy being: why do they want to pour rail-ready concrete for the bus lane if it's just a bus lane?
Culbersons district also includes a portion of Post Oak. He's the reason they had to go forward with BRT instead of rail..

If uptown doesn't want the light rails (since they've rejected it multiple times), I say place the light rail down Montrose and Washington. They will have the density to justify it.
Possibly look to do something up Allen Parkway/Kirby and segment the inner city that way. let uptown remain the continuous parking lot that it desperately wants to remain.
Not trying to get this off topic, but since you insist on bringing up rail.. "Uptown" doesn't want the light rail, or Culberson doesn't want the light rail..?

For months now I've been wondering about that section in the top right with no panels.. Are they putting balconies there? It was enclosed in the renderings.
