  1. lol i asked them via facebook on Friday as I am waiting for this location also... here was their response.

"we are about a month away from opening. We are waiting on some permits to continue our construction. See you all soon!! We are excited. Please help spread the word!"

    YES!!!  :D

  2. looking back on the design contest, it doesn't look like any of the firms addressed the Central Station capacity issues either.. quite an oversight by METRO and co. i wonder if they at least considered the double/outside platforms for Central Station?

agreed j_cuevas, it would be neat to build a structure over that block of Main to serve as a larger gathering area.

maybe something like this with trains running through it. now THAT would be a true Central Station.

Omg that is exactly what we need! Man that would be so awesome! It would create a great retail area as well!

  3. I think just closing that section of Main would be awesome. You could build an actual building that would be act as a large indoor platform with restrooms, ticket machines, etc. I think it would mean closing the side streets where the rail turns as well. Idk just my opinion.

  4. Yeah me and my girlfriend were at Central Station yesterday, and we got a bit confused. So you basically have to get on an Green Line station to head east or Purple Line to head south east but you can't do that coming off of Central Station? Someone help me understand because I thought Central Station was to transfer to any line.

  5. You know I thought the same thing Cloud713... do you think closing that block of street would make sense? Like make that one giant station where people just enter and exit the sation

  6. I'm just glad this whole BRT plan is happening. Regardless of the opposition, the city approved Uptown's budget to include this project. Once this thing is finished, I wonder how many idiots are going to complain once they see how efficient it runs.

  7. Simply looking at Google Earth and following the area around McKinney from Maple up to Blackburn (excepting of course where Lemmon crosses), should give you an example of an urban neighborhood that is probably the most successful in Texas outside of a downtown. But you are right, the lack of a street grid doesn't help, and I think will be a great positive factor for Midtown longterm.

I think what I didn't like was it just seemed forced. Outside of that area the city tapers off drastically. And while a lot is still planned for the area, it felt more like a city center than a natural urban environment.

  8. I was just in dallas recently and I found nothing that stood out better than what we have here. They put suburban next to urban all over their 'uptown'. And the one thing I didn't like was how disorganized it felt. They had some corners that seemed to turn in to these grand areas only for them to fade out on the next block. I think the lack of a street grid didn't help either. Me and my gf wandered all over their downtown and I was not impressed at all. For all their 'planning' things seemed so out of place and so overdone.
