  1. The mall will be open air lifestyle center type and not the typical mall.

Think Memorial City with warm outdoor hallways.

 too hot for me I am glad I live downtown even though there is no mall to speak of as of yet

*eelimon has his finger crossed for his support to build The Pavvillion!*

and yes I know it will be open air mall type too, but atleast it won't be surrounded by a sea of asphalt!

  2. Althought the map says subway station, the map also says LRT. LRT can be lowered into a tunnel, but I doubt it.

Also, everything is that is visionary. Nothing is set in stone. It is used as a template. Just like the Buffalo Bayou Plan.

Well I hope it happens Houston does need transportation options. And Light Rail on surface streets won

  3. I think just as long as there are no chemicals in the bayou from the chemical and oil refineries down stream it would look as good as it can. I mean after the clean up. My biggest fear is that once this project is complete people will begin to get sick from chemicals being dumped deliberately or otherwise. I also would not like to see three eyed frogs, five headed water snakes, or shark size minnows.

  4. Nope. See my very old posts: "Build Rail, no (Tom) Delay.

And Tom and I are both UH alumns, but still not love for the roach killer from me.

Well then I gues I had you all worng then Coog I will read that old tread.

I cant find that old topic chucks

  5. I'd still like a Gehry, heck if freaking Spain can get a Gehry, why not us. The Euro's are OK, but they don't seem to think in the same scale as US architects, I'll agree with you there.

I do think Frank Gehry lates style fits the city very well. I would describe his work as chaotic organization. Yes, I do think his work is an oxymoron, but given the nature of this city

  6. Politics started at Post #25 in this thread. Read closely.

I was just playing; yes I have been reading the thread. I was only joking, because you are obviously republican.

I have nothing more to say in this thread *eelimon sighs*

  7. Another one here who is surprised by this. He always seems to wiggle his way out of things.

Regarding the election, as a Christian myself, Tom Delay is probably going to make a huge public speech about the situation and cleverly drop in a few words about how he prays every night, and a ton of people are probably going to fall right into his hands once again, blindly thinking to themselves, "how could anyone that prays at night and believe in God do anything wrong"?

Although I would love to see a change, I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he is re-elected yet once again.

Not meaning to sound cruel, however until he is in jail, I will consider him as somone who is "off the hook".

You Know you are right I wish religious people like that would get their praying hand out of their A** and see the truth in what ever lie (a.k.a.

  8. There was a theater on Augusta. I dont recall the reason it closed but surely lack of sales was probably one.

I really dont mind driving from the Galleria to West Oaks to goto the Drafthouse.

If an AMC or Cinemark opened in the Galleria area it wouldnt appeal to me. There's a theater on Dunvale, thats close enough.

It was the Spectrum it suffered a harsh blow after TinselTown Started building stadium seating out in the Suburbs.

Then the property was sold to a developer who built luxury apartment on the land

  9. Something needs to be fixed...

Why you have to bring in your politics into this Coog?

Besides Louisiana has always had a bad reputation with Government leadership. No matter if it was democrat, republican, or independent.

What does the Galveston evacuation have to do with Republican leadership? Nowhere could I find Lyda Ann Thomas' party affiliation. Isn't mayor of Galveston a non-partison position?

I believe that in Texas local governments, i.e. mayors, are supposed to be nonpartisan.

Interesting. Galveston is run by Democrats and has been for over a hundred years, yet you claim them as Republicans?

    Local guys and gals=Good

    State guys=Bad

    FEMA=Still missing in action.

I think Coog is having delusions because Tom Delay was indicted today.

Read the following from the NY Times:

  10. For my own selfish reasons I would love to have the Grand Parkway completed North of I-10 around to I-45. We live in Cinco Ranch and my parents live in Northhampton so there is not direct route. It would probably cut the travel time in half. :D

In all seriousness, it seems like there is quite a bit of "cross suburb commuting" around Houston which currenlty requires you to travel into the Beltway 8 then out again via a different spoke. For instance, I travel to College Station about 6 times each fall for football games. I can either take several different 2 lane FM roads north of Katy up to 290 or go in on I-10 to Beltway 8, then out again on 290 toward Hempstead. I think this would really help eliviate traffice buildup on some of the spokes inside the beltway (I10, 290, I45) as well as traffic on the hub (BW8) when you are really just trying to get around the city to another spoke.

What about taking Hwy 6 to the 290 that is not a two lane FM road?

I can tell you that Baytown and Chambers County really want this thing. This road is opening up a lot of area over there which will be used for distribution centers. This road will also provide a needed link between the port and I-10 East.

I certainly understand the gripes of those who are worried about sprawl elsewhere in the Houston area.

    Agreed

It does not matter if you are against this road it will get built.

It definitely does not matter if yall are griping about it on HAIF it will get built

  11. Classic.

What a warm fuzzy feeling I get, knowing that communities will come together in love and harmony, and all it takes is a 200 foot wide strip of concrete, known as the Grand Parkway.

I look forward to reading Kevin Brady's new book, "It Takes a Grand Parkway To Raise a Child".

OMG you are way too funny Redscare

    LOL

Is the reason for the grand parkway really to bring suburban communities together? I always thought of it as something to encourage development and to make it easier for these communities to get to the major arteries (I10, 59, 45, etc...)

    And avoid downtown all together.

Sorry Pineda, but the gig is up. Much in the same way the term "9-11" has been used to steamroll any opposition to new legislation regarding national security, the term "Rita evacuation" will be used to steamroll any opposition to the Grand Parkway. Watch what happens in the coming months, our legislators will start using the term as the "real" reason the Grand Parkway needs to be finished down the corridor of their choosing.

    yup!

  12. Okay, if there was a designated place for this topic already, well I sure as hell couldn't find it so has anyone heard anything about the Spirit Of Houston? I figured they had cancelled the vision altogether since the guy died but who knows... if so that's a shame. I thought she was awesome. I'm still new at this place so don't know if the picture will come through or not.

    Spirit Of Houston

I emailed the web master I will let you know what he says

I am looking up the company Michels Bollinger, Inc.

  13. Initially I was NOT going to leave my downtown high rise apartment. Since I live in this awful high rise I had to take some precautions. I know that the higher you are winds speeds are stronger.

On Wednesday I was watching the news and Rita was a Cat 5, but projected to go to a Cat 4 and the eye was to hit south of the Galveston. The eastern part of the storm then would be hitting Houston and Galveston. I got on the road it took me 8 1/2 hrs to get to family in Lufkin.

Shamefully, I cut a lot of the time by driving through medians, the free way shoulders, store parking lots, 59 business highways that go through certain towns, back roads, and one dirt road. Otherwise, I think it would have taken me about 15 hours to drive what usually takes 2 hours.

By the time I got there the storm had shifted, now I would have driven back into Houston, but I had no idea if and when counter-flow lines would be opened on the 59 for evacuees. Plus my family did not want us to go back.

Redscarem, do you think I am a puppy for leaving?

I kind of have to say maybe, but in my defense I was influenced by the media and my family.

  14. as for the movie theater discussion.... I don't think your run of the mill cinema concept would be good for downtown nor economically viable... I do think that a theater like the Alamo Drafthouse would be ideal either in midtown or in the Pavillions...

    Great point!

My imagination is going wild here. I would love to see recliner style seating. I would pay a premium for that. I say about $15-$17 per-person. Concession stands would serve better food.

They could have a waiter service via remote; you could click on a touch screen, and select what ever you want. The servers could walk up and down the isle with night vision goggles. Seating could accommodate foot space for servers to get to any seat.
