(Lennon/McCartney)
Aaaahhh...
Lovely Rita meter maid
Lovely Rita meter maid
Lovely Rita meter maid
Nothing can come between us
When it gets dark I tow your heart away
Standing by a parking meter
When I caught a glimpse of Rita
Filling in a ticket in her little white book
In a cap she looked much older
And the bag across her shoulder
Made her look a little like a military man
Lovely Rita meter maid
May I inquire discreetly (Lovely Rita)
When are you free to take some tea with me? (Lovely Rita, maid, ah)
Rita!
Took her out and tried to win her
Had a laugh and over dinner
Told her I would really like to see her again
Got the bill and Rita paid it
Took her home I nearly made it
Sitting on the sofa with a sister or two
Oh, lovely Rita meter maid
Where would I be without you
Give us a wink and make me think of you (Lovely Rita meter maid)
Lovely Rita meter maid, Rita meter maid (Lovely Rita meter maid)
Oh Lovely Rita meter meter maid (Lovely Rita meter maid)
Ah da, ah da (Lovely Rita meter maid)

Mark me down as opposed. Looking at the list, outside of the Woodlands and Sugarland, there is not a lot of action in the others. Frankly, bedroom communities, by their very design, don't generate a lot of excitement. It is the nature of the beast.
We went through this with West U, and after a couple of new topics, it slithered away, never to be seen again.
I thought yall wanted membership to grow?

Well most commuter rail engines aren't attractive. That the one thing I like about Light Rail.
They way I see it, the should lay some railline in the middle of each freeway and run it to the edg eof the city. Have 3-4 stops on it, some extra ones in the cases like Greenway Plaza and NASA. Each route would take off from dowtown and let off at a major transit hub at 610, The Belt, HWY6/1960, and the far subrurbs.
There sould be 2 routes, an express route that goes to all the stops and a Park and Ride route that goes from 1 stop straigh to Downtown.
There also be connections to the airports and any Amtrak or hi speed rail stations. That's one mistake Metro made witht he light rail. They go a major line going Main St. and no stop adjacent to the Greyhound station. I tell ya, this city needs to learn geometry.
geometry? Ok Plastic please explain.....
Commuter rail engines can be attractive if you have ever been to southern Cali San Diego has really cool looking ones and so does LA.

As eelimon said, part of it was HISD's technology center (whatever that was!)....I dont know what took up the rest of the space - it is a large parcel of land though....it looks strange to drive by and see so much open space...
Toward the west end of the newly cleared lot were some old apartment complex units. Only one is left out of at least 5 buildings. Most were occupied by illegal immigrants from south of the border.
-
I would put an HEB on the ground floor of any building downtown near the southern part.
Maybe like on Leeland and Main or bell and main. downtown needs a major grocery store I am tiered of having to drive to midtown or further for my food.

Theres League City,Dickinson,Clear Lake Webster and others.
Why not have its own category?
Editor! he does bring up a good point

San Antonio is very slow to respond to the tourist dollars of rich Mexican Nationals that love to shop in the Houston Galleria b/c of the upscale shops.
In truth San Antonio tourist attractions overshadow Houston
-
Someone said they may be expanding the park??? But I hope it is a mixed-use development.
Maybe La Tapatia bought it to expand there parking lot.
the land was part of HISD & HCC
the fire station is across the street.
Any one out there know something I am clueless

Ok I was bored so I just found it for you.so far everything on turnberrty is very preliminary.. they are reducing it from 42 stories to 33 probably though. i just talked to my supervisor, and was instructed to not give too much information at this stage of developement. it's going to be really cool though!
thanks the multiple threads confused me for a second too

Will there ever be new construction in the strand and surrounding historical areas of Galveson? All of the new construction seems like it is on the outskirts and I would just love to see Galveston at its peak density again in the strand. Somewhat like San Diego on how they mix in the new condos with the beautiful historic structures in their downtown.
Yeah it seem that Galveston has not recovered from the last great Hurricane that hit the Island over a 100 yrs ago. and know it seems Rita will strike the Island too as a 5 category. LOL I am just Kidding , but rita is on her way.
I would hope that the sea wall will infill soon. From what I hear Galveston is going through a building boom.

what course is it?

You know Starbuck's is not all that great of a place. It would be interesting if tea houses got popular in the USA. Or a chocleteria on the Pacific coast of Mexico chocolate is served in cups the size of bowls. There are 4 varieties. They are served from the very hardy to the very light. None resemble what you and I know as hot chocolate, it is a great tasting hot chocolate, serving style from the land where chocolate came from. I would go to Starbuck's if they served that.
-
I believe it was 2003 when they were acquired by Starbucks
Intresting I did not know that Starbuk's was the Microsoft of coffee houses.
-
seattle's best is owned by starbucks.
I always thought they were seperate Businesses did they get bought by Starbuck's?
-
Why not just call it South Central.
How stupid can they be.
Midtown already has name recognition so much so that a new development going up in the Eastside of downtown is being marketed as Midtown.
I think it is kind deceptive because the neighborhood nearest to the development is the old Chinatown. Albeit, the development is in the middle of an old industrial complex so the area is lacking an identity.
Oh and this project is a great addition to the area. when is the ground breaking?

I think Richmond Ave. should have more Uptown-type office buildings there if the clubs there no longer are there
What are the property values like down Richmond Ave?
Count me as someone who tries to avoid Uptown at all costs.I do like uptown for the waterwall and eatzi's. That's about it.
I totally have to agree with the above quote
"Additionally, downtown is the home of the major performing arts. Performing arts in Uptown is limited to Treasures and the Men's Club."Not that there's anything wrong with that.
I thought there was a playhouse company who was building a theater on Westheimer and Yorktown. It is the AD players or something like that
-
Just curious, but LTAWACS do you live in Downtown?
I went to the web site for this, I could only find what yall already posted. My question is will this get built?
-
I don't really see why we need light rail What Houston needs is commuter. Screw the Main line only city lines we need are down Westheimer and 1960.
Thsi commuter rail sound good except the locomotives are ugly and they cross exsistig roads and higyways. If we could get a way from the streets and the tracks not to cross eachother we would have a perfect rail plan.
WHAT?

Or has anyone else noticed the night life scene the past few weeks or so has slowed down just a little bit? Don't get me wrong I just came in a little while ago from going out (Midtown) and there was a good-looking/good sized crowd out (and I had a really good time) but definitely not as packed everywhere as normal.
At first when the evacuees started to arrive my friends and I thought it may have something to do with it because some people we met when out expressed their concern with potential security issues etc. Then we thought maybe with the jump in gasoline prices people were staying home or closer to home to conserve fuel. Far fetched maybe since lots of places in Midtown especially are easily accessible on foot. But, just a thought.
Maybe I'm just over analyzing and rambling because I'm still kinda tipsy....... any thoughts?
All Clubs go through ups and downs. Perhaps the clubs you frequent are in a slow down b/c of other factors school just started, the Katrina thing, and maybe the summer is winding down
-
they're gonna put a borders right across the street from a barns and noble. plus, what's this about a 40 story building???
Will they have a Seattle's Best Coffee Shop there to compite with the Starbuck across the street?
-
Exactly what I was going to say. The westside line from Downtown to 290, either on Washington or 7th Street, will run beside City Hall from the GRB. At least the current plan is to do so. They haven't tossed that line yet. It just isn't on the fast track, like the Galleria-UH-TSU line.
and it will be a subway
-
The subway is history. The new metro vision has a new east-west rail line from UH/TSU, a mixed-use expanded Wheeler station, Greenway Plaza, and ending in Uptown. There are no new lines planned for downtown. Although the Red line is suppose to be extended to a new multi-modal train/bus terminal just north of downtown, around where the current freight train tunnel is.
so what is in the plan at central houston website is history? and what is the freight train tunnel?
when did that happen?
look at page 14

That sounds really cool, but boring at the same time. I know I would like to do that at somepoint of my life but only for a week or two only if it was to do preservation/archives
