  1. It would look WAY out of place in midtown. I don't know that I'd want this along Post Oak either. It has a very downtown/corporate look to it.

I just wonder if this building will be the capstone to this building boom---much like Heritage Plaza was in 1989. The last signature tower if you will before everything folds up due to collapsing oil prices.

The last signature tower in this building boom ? It's the first and only signature tower to be built in this building boom . . .

  2. Get off the pot if your not going to This should have been the first building to go up during the current boom. They have been planning this building for idk how many years and it still hasn't gone up. Just like last time they have sat on thier behinds and missed another opportunity to get this building built. I just don't understand why they continue to go thru the process of announcing a groud breaking releasing renderings and the whole deal to not build it.

  3. Bp has announced forthcoming layoffs.

BP has been planning to downsize for quite some time now, before the price of oil decreased. They are creating a new US on shore company and thats the cause of the downsizing. When restructing takes place there are always some job cuts. Nothing out of the ordinary. This was going to happen regardless.

Also they are cutting some jobs in Alaska. no job cuts have been announced in Houston.

  4. this. there's been a shift in the equity markets away from mf for exactly that reason... a lot of the major players want to see how the market absorbs all these units.

granted this obviously doesn't mean that no new mf will be announced or built but i can name several projects that were in the pipeline that are either being delayed or scratched.

So what are the projects being delayed or scratched ?

  5. I am looking to move into the Richmont Square. The north block is slated for demolition first. The lady in the leasing office indicated it "should be a couple years" before the south block of apartments is demolished, although that is subject to change fairly quickly.

I reported last week that they are only giving six month leases and plan to tear the middle and front down fairly soon.

The back section is coming down in December with the crew coming in to start drawing center in January.I reported last week that they are only giving six month leases and plan to tear the middle and front down fairly soon.

  6. htown live, pal i love you.. but this is all so very confusing to me. if our illustrious city government cannot even come together to acquire a bloomingdales brand upon such a barron retail desert such as downtown houston.. then how on earth could you possibly think that downtown houston could entertain such retail powerhouses such as a HARRODS vs SELFRIDGES? have you ever shopped at a GALERIES LAFAYETTE? well, i have many times at the dubai mall in dubai, uae. this particular french department store often reminds me of a more glamorous macy's. i have eaten at the RED BOX. this is the very nice little cafe / bistro located inside the larger GALERIES LAFAYETTE.

we shall learn to become a bit more realistic here my god pal. if houston cannot even seem to lure a VIRGIN MEGASTORE.. i would highly doubt that a HARROD'S , SELFRIDGES, or even a GALORIES LAFAYETTE, shall want to entertain downtown houston at this more wonderful time during our current construction boom. those particular brands, are EXTREMELY international. to date they seem to only cater to the very wealthy vs european consumer.

    Couldn't agree more!!!

  7. Agreed, just last week the city turned down a deal to redevelop 1111 Main Street (the old Sakowitz building) into a Bloomingdale's and a Ritz Carlton. Neiman Marcus ran Bloomingdale's out of Dallas years ago, and now Houston doesn't want them either. The Ritz Carlton was in Houston years ago and failed to impress, and got the boot.

Houston is clearly not chasing those brands (which are not all that great), as there IS better. Houston has moved on and now wants better than that, so what happens will be interesting.

So wait . . . Now this downtown Bloomingdale's anchored shopping district that you have been telling us is going to happen isn't going to happen because now the city of Houston doesn't want them ? If that's the case then why was the idea entertained at all? Also I thought the Ritz was going to be by Discovery park ? Now it was going in the old Sakowitz building ? Just doesn't add up seems like back pedaling.

We have Nieman Marcus, we have Saks. . . What other department store is better then Bloomingdales? Especially for downtown Houston.
