The retail center’s 12 1- to 2-acre pad sites should be delivered by the end of the year, NewQuest President Austin Alvis said, adding that all but two of the pads are already committed. Construction for the first multitenant building, totaling 15,000 square feet of retail space on the corner of Highway 249 and Boudreaux Road, should also start by the end of the year, Austin said. A 145,000-square-foot multitenant building row is in the design phase. Also planned are two multitenant buildings totaling 24,902 square feet."

Willow Creek is the single primary stream within the watershed and flows into Spring Creek just upstream of where Spring Creek crosses under I-45. The Willow Creek watershed covers about 54 square miles and has about 56 miles of open streams in the watershed, including the primary stream and tributary channels. Based on the 2010 U.S. Census, the estimated population of the Willow Creek watershed is 45,890. A large floodplain exists along Willow Creek that covers mostly undeveloped land. The downstream end of the watershed is within the floodplain of Spring Creek." https://www.hcfcd.org/Activity/Active-Projects/Willow-Creek/F-106-Drainage-Improvements-in-Willow-Creek-Watershed/-F-106-Boudreaux-Stormwater-Detention-Basin-M500-10-00 https://communityimpact.com/houston/tomball-magnolia/development/2023/09/28/stormwater-detention-basin-proposed-to-combat-flooding-along-willow-creek/ "The Harris County Flood Control District unveiled plans for the Boudreaux Stormwater Detention Basin project to solve flooding in Willow Creek at a virtual public meeting on Sept. 27. The detention basin is being proposed in the Willow Creek watershed in northwest Harris County, with the project in the preliminary engineering stage and plans to move into the design stage, said Brandie Zenon, manager of capital projects department north, during the meeting."

  6. The new Main Event on 249 (near Regal theaters, formerly Silverado) is nearing completion. Given the considerable growth, the area has been lacking in amusement options. This should be a good addition to the area.
  7. I couldn't find an actual topic on SH 249 (Tomball parkway) and its expansion up to ~ Navasota. So here's some background for anyone interested: HCTRA expanded SH249 to Tomball as Phase 1 of a multi-phase extension of SH249. This was completed and opened in 2015. https://hctra.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=527d9322e2244039b0bc3e93fe2c4fc1 The plan is for SH249 to ultimately terminate at SH 105 roughly close to Navasota, hence the nickname the "Aggie Tollway" or "Aggie Highway". This extension seems to be broken up between the Houston TxDOT office and the Bryan TxDOT office. The Houston office is over the section from the current terminus to Todd's Mission. http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/projects/studies/houston/sh249-extension.html The Bryan office is over the section from Todd's Mission to ~ Navasota... well actually SH 105 east of Navasota and west of Plantersville / Stoneham. http://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/projects/studies/bryan/sh249.html However, it seems as if there is "significant" local opposition to the last segment of the project from Todd's Mission to SH 105: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/transportation/article/Texas-249-growth-proceeding-despite-vocal-6234179.php http://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/2015/05/01/59957/txdot-to-move-ahead-with-249-toll-road-despite-local-opposition-2/ https://communityimpact.com/houston/news/2015/12/11/txdot-holds-public-meeting-on-updated-hwy-249-extension-plan/ Here are two more recent articles as well: https://www.texastribune.org/2016/07/03/grimes-county-residents-turn-out-against-toll-road/ https://www.texastribune.org/2016/07/21/rural-land-owner-preps-sue-state-transportation-de/
  8. Hello all. I'm fairly new to the forum but really enjoy spending time on here. I've always been interested in learning about life in the 'good 'ole days' (as I'm only 24 years old) and have always had a passion for finding/learning about abandoned places. Anyway, I decided to stroll through Tomball this weekend to do some antique shopping and general browsing. While walking between shops, I stumbled upon this. Does anyone have an idea what used to be here and when? The figure on the pole appears to be some sort of old pizza restaurant sign if I had to guess. Maybe '70s/'80s? But the most interesting part of the area (in my opinion) was the safe-looking structure behind it. It's a door surrounded by brick and concrete that has clearly been picked at/worn down over time. Behind it (didn't take a picture unfortunately) was a set of stairs that was attached to the structure. I didn't go up the stairs, altough I guess I should have. There was no doorknob/handle on the door, but instead had what appeared to be a spot for a lock (similar to a standard locker). The floor in front of the door appeared to be extremely dated as well. All of this is located on a flat concrete slab in between shops that line a main road through the area. Does anyone know what the character on the pole was for? And more importantly, can anyone tell me what the safe-like structure might be? It's just interesting that it has made it this long and is sitting in its current state without having been torn down. There were no historical markers near the area. Anyway, here are some pictures:

Lee worked in the office of MacKie and Kamrath during the 1960's and was involved in that firm's design of a large house for George Mitchell and other projects. The MacKie and Kamrath firm's work closely followed the principles of Organic Architecture as demonstrated in the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Lee's house incorporates many of the signature MacKie and Kamrath details including dramatic cathedral ceilings, numerous skylights, rugged stone walls, copper fireplace face, intricate interior redwood trim, cedar siding with multi-color stained accents, indirect lighting and extensive wood built-ins. This is a unique and well-maintained house on a quiet cul-de-sac. 10. While on my weekend ride I found Woodtrace hiding in the woods. Seems like a nice place on a lake, great location, and all the road & utility development is in place. Does not appear to be in a flood plain or have other problems. http://maps.google.c...+Texas&t=h&z=17 What is the story behind Woodtrace? One would think a developer would snap up the plots and finish it off.
  11. According to HBJ, the Lone Star College system plans to implode two former Compaq buildings in their University Park campus. The implosion will be on September 18th and will take up to six weeks of cleanup. Lone Star cites the need for more green space as the reason for the demolition. Does anyone know which buildings in particular are being imploded? HBJ doesn't really specify. HBJ link

  14. My wife and I ate at the Le Gourmet Bistro in Tomball this evening. This is a GREAT restaurant!!! It's located between Cherry and Commerce streets, right off of 2920 in downtown Tomball. I've been wishing to find a small, quaint restaurant that had the charm of a New England type of Inn feel (but also has the southern charm). The food and atmosphere are INCREDIBLE (the duck and lamb are out of this world). The owners are absolutely sweet and friendly-kinda makes you feel like you're eating in a living room of an old house. The website is: www.legourmetbistro.com Definitely a gem of a find!!!

  23. I may be way behind here since I don't know how long it has been gone but does anyone know what happened to La Tavola in Tomball? That was such a great restuarant...big city taste with a small town atmosphere.
  24. I just noticed today that the shopping strip across from Willowbrook Mall will be getting a Fingers Furniture. This is same the shopping center with the AMC 24 Movie theatre. Any opinions on this? Is it good to have a Fingers Furniture?
