  1. This building, being of modest height, will appear much taller I think due to it being the only high rise in the area and it being relatively close to the freeway. I think it'll be a more dramatic impact on the area than other buildings of similar height elsewhere such as the Galleria or Med Center.
  2. Based off nothing but a feeling, I think this tower stands a very high chance of coming out of the ground this year. While the garage may not signal anything it sure seems very "Capitol Tower-esk" where the garage went up first while they searched for a tenant. Anybody else feel that way? I mean why build just a garage with branding on it if there was no chance of a building going up or it was cancelled? The way the economy is rocking right now and oil prices on the rise, I think it's a matter of time before this jewel graces the skyline.
  3. So this highrise will be right next door to the Hanover Tower, right? That'll look kinda strange I think.
  4. Well seeing a new rendering can't be a bad thing although I don't see anything happening with this for a long while to come but it definitely causes me to raise an eyebrow. Somewhere in a corner office in Houston is a Clark W. Griswold looking at the rending of his pool just waiting for the ground to thaw so-to-speak...
  5. Between this, Capitol Tower, 609 Main and the other tower Hines just built (the one with the slanted roof), we could have put up a new super-tall. Why they keep building these crappy 30-something story buildings is beyond me. Clearly somebody thinks there's room for more office space and they're being leased or they wouldn't come out of the ground. Is there an unwritten law that nothing over 40 something stories can be built downtown any longer? It's kind of annoying...
  6. Could the future of this tower be in the details of the slab? Would they have poured a slab strong enough for a 40-50 story tower or is the slab only engineered for a parking garage? If it's the latter, we have our answer.
  7. I was just about to say the exact same thing! Compared to the building to the right which is in the 30-something story range, it doesn't look much taller than that. Sort of disappointing for such a sexy building.
  8. This building is now visible driving down 45. It's rising pretty quickly.
  9. I saw this and about soiled myself!!! WOW! HUGE HUGE HUGE news!!!
  10. Stupid question here but was the slab engineered to hold a 40 or 50 story skyscraper or just the garage? I would assume it would be far cheaper to build a foundation just for a garage than a skyscraper. Therefore maybe its an indication that eventually there will be a skyscraper here?
  11. That would be awesome! With Air India being part of Star Alliance, I bet Houston wins the duel between us and Dallas. It'll be nice to have another big bird landing at IAH. Looks like they operate a lot of triple 7's on their international flights but they also still utilize the 47-4 and the 87. Would be cool to have more 47-4 service at IAH, too. The article is confusing. The title seems definitive that Houston and Los Angeles were selected for service but in the body of the article it says it's between Houston and Dallas. Which is it?
  12. This development was a joke from the beginning. It's in the hood and frankly fairly removed from anything desirable. I sure as hell wouldn't want to live on that side of town. Then again I'm a Woodlands snob lol
  13. A 66-story tower would rival any building downtown and Williams. By floor count it would be the third tallest in Houston.
  14. This project is going to be so damn sexy and God willing a trend setter for the city.
  15. I'm not sure a supertall on this block would be aesthetically appealing or have much of an impact. Chase Tower is 75 stories and it would having a supertall butted up right next to that would steal some of the glory away from each one I think. I still say the Bank of the Southwest Tower block would be most fitting for Hines' signature piece. Unfortunately that's not the block that's in question.
  16. There's zero chance this building will top 3 Allen Center. That is a 50-story, 685 foot, Class A office tower with probably 12' or 14' ceilings. I think a better match for this condo tower would be One Park Place. That building is 37-stories, 501 ft tall. Market Square Tower is 40-stories and 502' tall. I think it's likely that this building will be in the 540' range but not much more than that I'd suspect.
  17. The COH and surrounding areas are growing at an astounding rate -- adding between 130,000 to as much as 150,000 thousand people PER YEAR! While some smaller cities are growing at a higher precentage, nobody, except DFW, is adding the people we are per year. The demand will be there. By the time this tower is done, there will be an additional ~300,000 people here. I'm not worried. I'm implying that as the city continues to grow these companies will as well or draw in relocations from other smaller, perhaps more remote areas. I'm just sad for the older towers like BOA that are so iconic to the skyline but are becoming the red headed step child.
  18. Well corporate relocations seem to be the thing these days with Shell moving out, BOA moving to Capitol Tower and United moving to 609 Main. Who else I wonder would consider moving into a brand new skyscraper with their namesake on the front? Gotta be somebody out there looking at these renderings with a raised eyebrow. It would be one of the more sexy buildings in Houston for sure.
  19. If I didn't know any better, it sure looks like they're preparing to go vertical with a major skyscraper. Too bad it's only a garage.
  20. Can't wait for this sucker to rise! It should rise fairly rapidly being the foundation and garage are long complete.
  21. This building is almost 3 years away from being inventory. It's gonna be ok.
