  1. There is one by HCC and one in Bellaire called Luigi's Pizzeria. Here is their site: http://www.luigipizzamidtown.com/ I can't get to the link posted above for this new Luigi's Italian: http://luigismidtown.com/
  2. whoa what happened? Hope everyone is ok. I live down the street and didn't notice any commotion...
  3. Meaning it will be 1/4 the size of a normal Whole Foods? Or 1/2 the price of a normal Whole Foods?
  4. Their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Ship-Shield-311476425874783/ Weird concept. Should we take bets on if it will last longer than Barbell?
  5. I know back in April-May, there were new contingent owners doing a 3-month test run I believe. I don't know what came out of that, but I know he was trying to sell. The new potential owners I met were Indian, but not the Cowboy and Indian kind!
  6. http://www.cafepoetes.com/ I put a pic up on this thread:
  7. Also (maybe related) something I have been curious about, Cecils (600 W Gray just east of Stanford) has had a for sale sign up for a month or so now. Asking the bartenders they say they can't talk about it.
  8. I assume this would be the lot on the NW corner that has the Stop and Shop, Pinks and Dry Cleaners? There is no record for the property that would be 700-712 West Gray on HCAD that I can find...
  9. Restaurants can serve alcohol from 10am to noon on Sunday in conjunction with food. Also sporting venues, fairs, festivals and wineries can serve before noon. I believe I have gotten alcohol before 7am on a weekday at the United Lounge, but I didn't pay for it. The law states "sale/service of alcohol" so i assume free alcohol is not allowed either. Per TABC: ON-PREMISE LICENSE OR PERMIT (E.G. BAR OR RESTAURANT) Monday-Friday: 7am-midnight Saturday: 7am-1am (Sunday morning) Sunday: Noon to midnight. (10am-noon only in conjunction with the service of food) If the establishment is in a city or county legal for late hours, and they have a late hours permit, they can sell alcohol for on-premise consumption until 2am any night of the week.
  10. I assume this is going to be the second location, there is one in the Woodlands with the same name. I went before a show once, food and drink were good but nothing spectacular.
  11. Several students painted a mural on the south wall of the parking garage last weekend. They are still working on some of the highlights/details.
  12. Here is the original thread on the subject: Warning: lots of "fun" discussion on Islam, no rendering of the originally proposed Islamic Center. But gives a timeline of when they acquired and when the decision was made to build in Toronto. Last real news in that thread is from May 2013 when Aga Khan stated that the center was a few years out and the land would be turned in to a "sports complex". I remember they put a fence up and did a little bit of work to clear things up, have a half-ass volleyball court that is in ruins and I never saw used. Really no change there in almost 3 years. they do mow the grass on occasion.
  13. The live cam also has a link to a timelapse video on the top right that is definitely worth checking out. Very cool to see how the basement was done and built on to.
  14. My brother waited in line for 3 hours in SF to put his refundable deposit down (i guess if you went in person you got earlier in the delivery queue). If Texas would include this model in the $2500 tax incentive this model would be $35K minus $7.5K federal incentive plus a potential state incentive.
  15. if that is a sign of a bad part of town, i guess everything inside the loop is a bad part of town!
  16. I've been meaning to post this pic for a while. This cool little art piece (made up of hardback books) is on display as you are going in to iPic.
  17. Some rep on NPR this morning said it would be 191 units, ready for fall semester 2017. Major excavation starting next week. No mention of a grocery story anchor but the story was focusing on the housing.
  18. I like the style, but the color choices are poor. The plain backsplash and white cabinet doors blend in to the walls too much. The lower cabinet doors appear to be the same color as the flooring. No contrast at all. I'm hoping that the photo was taken with very low exposure and its really not that bleak lighting wise. It really reminds me of a condo I owned that was built in 2008 which I loved, and had much better color choices IMO:
  19. Karbach rep at Specs told me that BBH #4 should be out in a few weeks, and will have a chocolate component. I'm wondering if they are releasing these too often now? Guess they are limiting the batches, selling out quick, and getting good press (in beer circles) so probably a good plan for now...
  20. Karbach released their latest Bourbon Barreled Hellfighter (#3). Its available at HEB if you can find it. I also saw it at Kroger on Studemont which has a very good beer department. I haven't tried it yet, sitting in my fridge waiting for the right night. But wanted to put it out there since it is a limited release.
  21. I at ate Burger Theory last Friday. Ended up getting takeout (originally planned to get pizza at My Pie but the line was out the door a block long due to their opening $3.14 promotion, oh and it was hailing). Manager was there making sure everyone was taken care of paying close attention to service quality. Menu has other items but we focused on the burgers. Lots of options for toppings, as well as turkey or veggie patty options. The burger was pretty good, I'd put the meat up there with Hubcap or Bernies. Toppings were good but nothing spectacular. Fries could use some more seasoning for my taste, the onion rings were pretty good. They also had a full bar with 12 beers on tap, mostly craft and many local. At around $10 for just a burger it was a bit pricey, but considering its a hotel restaurant downtown, that's expected. That said, it is a Holiday Inn, and it is Houston so not sure how many people it'll attract that aren't staying close by. There were 4-5 people eating and drinking at the bar, who appeared to be alone so may have been guests of the hotel. Several tables of people as well, place was a little under half full at 7:30 on a Friday in really bad weather.
