  1. Locations

    Sage Department Stores

Beechnut & Loop 610. The building was used by Builders Square for their store when it was there. When Lowes purchased the land they demolished the store and built a new building.

I'm not 100% certain...But the Hobby lobby next to lowes, looks like an old Builders square. If you drive around the back you can even see the old blue/red cheatline. The inside looks like a BS as well. What was next to it? Maybe it didn't get demo'd

  2. I have recently been in a few old kmarts, one a "Zodys" that closed and kmart took over another in Burbank CA...tons of business, lines long...the stores look like they never left 1980.

Cerberus has done better with Albertsons, than, say, Lampert has done with Sears and Kmart (though arguably, Kmart was doomed to begin with thanks to some mistakes in the 1970s and 1980s, namely, dumping money into new stores instead of maintaining older ones). The trick is to see if a giant merger like this will actually work, because a lot of the time it doesn't (AOL Time Warner, Penn Central being some notable failures).

  3. Southwest does have great customer service. However they just announced a devaluation of points.

Why didn't you fly straight to Costa Rica on United?

LOL "devaluation?" Are you basing that on the article headline you read? With atleast 3000 points depending on fare/notice you can buy a one way ticket. You can't get anything on united other than stupid magazine subscriptions with anything less than 50+k points.

  4. Got this from Ellen Cohen newsletter:

Council Member Cohen and her colleagues on the Budget & Fiscal Affairs Committee received a presentation from Director Mario Diaz of the Houston Airport System regarding the viability of planning for a future commercial spaceport in Houston. Director Diaz noted that Houston's Ellington Field Airport is particularly well-positioned for becoming a global hub for commercial spaceflight due to Houston's current aerospace infrastructure within the NASA community and our proximity to the Gulf of Mexico and Latin America.

I would as a Flight Attendant rather see Known Crew Member at Hobby...

  5. That hospital has been closed/ fenced for quite a while. I noticed that the smaller Pasadena Hospital has changed quite a bit. Is it closed, as well? I can't remember. I just drove by there. Professional bldg. was boarded up. Tatar St.?

No, The main hospital a fence was put up and a dumpster was added. I think they will demolish it. The city owned the place behind whataburger and the one behind cvs is still open.

The red light camera issue was nothing compared to this. Most people I know don't even know about the downtown cameras that already number in many and will soon number in many many more.

How soon before they put a camera in your house and your car so they can "help you" if you are in trouble?

They stated what they are for...They are not putting them in neighborhoods. People need to quit being paranoid. 1 in 6 billon i doubt anyone sits and watches one person move from one area to another.

  7. I remember Der Weinerschnitzel... I went to the one in Pasadena, on Southmore, in the late 1960's. It was close to the Foley's.

You drove thru a short little tunnel in the A-frame, to the drive-in window to order your hotdog. I always thought the sauerkraut option was bizarre, I was only 6 or so.

For some reason, I remember the soda cups, probably paper "Dixie" cups, white paper wax with those horizontal green chain designs at the top.

As far as the food quality, I can't recall.

The building is still there. It's now called "9ers" and they sell burgers and fries.

  8. When I read this I was pretty excited! Sounds good for Houston.

If you haven't gone...I suggest you go. I have a membership. I go 2-3 times a week (to exercise and see the animals)I went to the LA zoo and they had "BANK OF AMERICA" and numerous other sponsors around most displays(Yes, it's more expensive than ours.) Their are expenses...People think that they shouldn't pay for anything.

  9. ??

No, their prices are cheaper due to fuel hedging (that's expired now though right?), point-to-point operations, and a single aircraft type (cheaper maintenance). If you're suggesting that Continental will lower ticket prices due to this change, I won't hold my breath.

On the same point, Southwest has been fairly expensive for a lot of domestic stuff where they compete with Continental. I was actually surprised to see Houston-Los Angeles at $400.

I found a CO price last year 2 months in advance to LA for 900 bucks. I booked with southwest for 224 round trip. I have a trip Tuesday for the same price. You must be looking at "business" class. 440 with tax for 2 non stop round trip tickets. :P

  10. i don't think so, but i don't have the numbers to prove it. just my experience of booking about 15 tickets a year over the last 3 years, as other airlines started taking away meal service, the prices fluctuated consistently for all the airlines (except SW).

other airlines started taking away meals and charging for bags, etc to maximize their bottom line, but they didn't lower ticket prices (or not increase them as much) when they took away food.

i'm sure it factors in to some small extent, but not enough for the consumer to notice or even be effected given ticket prices fluctuate several times a day depending on demand.

I remember last year there was a billboard that read "Full meals on flights...Other airlines are just plane NUTS!" Poking fun at Southwest...haha! who is laughing now?

  11. 103 is not an ER situation. Been there, done that. I've been at 106 twice, yet only when I was vomiting bile did I bother with the ER. The other time it was a flu or something similar, and I filled the bathtub with cold water, emptied all my ice trays into it, and sat in it until a relative, who is a health practicioner, could arrive from out of town to ensure my survival. I probably saved a couple thousand dollars by doing that...proving my point, that the demand for healthcare is price elastic.

A couple of thousand? i had a kidney stone( i thought my appendix had burst) my over all bill before my insurance was 15,000 for an MRI and toradol for emergency room. I think i paid $300 bucks total(after insurance adjustments). My dr advised me to call him and go to a smaller ER from now on.

  12. Eeeek... they shut down the elementary and middle school in the Heights that are right near my house... said there was a confirmed case at each school... kind of scary. I was at Target today and noticed the Purell sanitizer was all gone.

yeah, cvs had only the small hand sanis. I helped some people from Mexico city yesterday i scrubbed my hands with alcohol and soap. luckily i'm loaded on the instant hand wipes. You wouldn't believe what people do. (i work retail) they cough don't cover there mouths, sneeze pick there nose and want to touch you.
