  1. This may be my least favorite building ever built in the history of Houston. Not just because it's ordinary, but because it will block views of Pennzoil Place, one of the best and most famous buildings ever built in Houston, so I will hate it until the day I die. If they had built this tower just about anywhere else in this city or if it had been significantly higher in order to justify covering up Pennzoil from the north and east I would have liked it just fine. But no, it just had to be just a little higher than Pennzoil and do its best to flatten up the Houston skyline even more without doing much to enhance it.
  2. Houston has enough grass fields (in the suburbs). We need more Midtown parks.
  3. Wow! This area has never looked better. I wasn't sure I'd ever live to see the day that Midtown Houston would look this good.
  4. Even with the stucco, this is a great looking tower. And I'm sure that is all RD is hearing from anyone that matters to him.
  5. V as in Vik, right? The troll formally known as Slick Vik strikes again.
  6. Want to escape the white stucco pedestal? The only way to do so is to move into one of those buildings so that you don't have to look at it. What a ruthless, yet genius marketing gimmick.
  7. The answer to your question is no. I will not meet you for drinks. And BTW, you're the one having the daylong pissing contest with at least 3 different people, trying in vein to convince anyone that you are some kind of authority on building design. Sorry, still not buying.
  8. I understand the preference. I also understand the difference between "they're" and "their". But, nothing you've posted today makes any sense.
  9. It's not just about the design. The design is just fine. Nothing spectacular, but it doesn't need to be. It's all about Houston finally getting a W Hotel. They could stick it in the Embassy Suite building for all I care, it still pretty good news.
  10. What does your opinion of this being a mediocre-at-best design have to do with actual design?
  11. Blah Blah Blah. You can't rationalize that a W Hotel won't be a welcomed addition to this city no matter what the building design looks like (to you )... or whatever it overlooks. Come on, it's all about the highly sought after 2000's tackiness on the inside, really. It's not about whether or not you like glass or stucco or angles or whatever else they stick on or don't stick on the outside of the building. And anyone concerned about 7 floors more or less is just demonstrating their own personal insecurities, not Houston's. And speaking of the view, one side of the Dallas W overlooks the shitty industrial warehouse district on the west side. But I'm sure the Dallas cheerleaders are happy they have the ugly old goat anyway.
  12. I suppose when Houston finally gets an In'N'Out Burger there will be some people at this forum complaining that every In'N'Out Burger on the planet has bigger, thicker meat and tighter, tastier buns than Houston's. Look at it like this - Houston already has the shortest W in the world. It is 0 stories tall. So anything higher than 0 would be an improvement. Plus, Houston's W will be at least a dozen years newer and shinier than the one in Dallas if that makes you feel any better about your size inadequacies.
