  1. damn this bites megabytes. I knew this was going to happen because it was taking too long. HAIF Experts!!! How long could this thing potentially be on hold?
  2. I just saw the lighting last night. I'm with the OP, I like and miss the blue but I like the white just as much, if not better. I mean the blue lighting was so dim you could barely see it anyway, not to mention, you couldn't even see the projected Continential Logo. For years i've been asking what the point was of even having the logo if it couldn't be seen.
  3. I don't really understand why people get so bent out of shape about eliminating the residential. There will be other patrons close by like: One Park Place and other venues. Yes, i would've loved to see the residential with this development too, but either way, i think the development can only help downtown for the better in the long run. This will be a catalyst for other retail and help spur further residential development down the road.
  4. How many of you have or will write a letter? Supporters- you can either pm me or just reply to this thread. Non- Supporters- i don't wanna hear it!
  5. What's up forumers. I think that it's great that our downtown is becoming more of a livable neighborhood. Inspired by the "Dallas Lights Up Another One" thread, i decided to write a letter to Central Houston. If this has been done before on this forum, i apologize. I'm writing a letter to improve the lighting on Houston's skyline. I was hoping i could get a few of you to write some more letters backing me up on this one. Maybe it will have a better chance of being done. I don't think Houston should strive to be like Dallas or anything like that but we all know that our skyline at night could use some vast improvement. Here's a sample of what i've written so far: Hello Mr. Bob Eury, My name is (my real name) and I am a resident of Houston, TX. I keep up with all the upcoming projects and efforts to revitalize downtown Houston. I want to commend all the efforts that are being made to revitalize the city center such as: Houston Pavilions, Main Street Square, One Park Place, and Discovery Green. I understand your time is valuable so I
  6. People , people. Let's just wait until tommorow before we start pulling our hair out! I seriously doubt they're going to put another Corner Bakery in the Pavilions. If we get a movie theater, that will have me at least 60% happy. I'm with some others, i do want to see more big name tennants like NikeTown, ESPN zone, and Virgin Megastore. A bookstore would be good as well. I also like Houston19514 idea of a hotel to replace the condo concept.
  7. i don't like statements lke these. Too general, prejudice, and not to mention a little ignorant. You can't speak for all people who own vehicles and would rather have another transportation alternative. Some people just like the convienence.
  8. already covered there htown fella . see thread http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...?showtopic=8535

  10. great, now you can stay your a$$ in San Antonio. You don't have to come back to Houston, ever. I'll stay here and i'll have my daily afternoon drinks in Happy hour once the Houston Pavilions opens. I might even treat a date to a free game of bowling at lucky strike.
  11. If i'm understanding your post correctly, I don't think the entire developement changed the name. The Alta Pavilions would have been the name of the residential units inside The Houston Pavilions.
  12. i'm just glad that it looks like they're adding retail into the equation. It would have kind of defeated the purpose if they didn't. If i'm not mistaken, that third rendering looks like there may be a farmers market there.
  13. i just drove by the site the other day and i saw some tractors and stuff looking like their clearing the land and paving way for the development. It looks to me that some progress is starting to be made. I could be wrong. Has anyone else been by the proposed site?
  14. i'm getting impatient, even if completion is slated for 2008, i 'm ready to start seeing some dirt fly for groundbreaking already!
  15. GOOD NEWS everyone! i was touring the area close to UHD on my lunch hour. Off Burnett and Main (North of I-10), it looks like they've been clearing that lot of land to begin construction. There were construction signs saying: CUSHMAN and WAKEFIELD. I called the number listed at 713-877-1700 and spoke with the broker. I asked the man for some information regarding the project and he said it is indeed the Hardy Rail Yards development! So it looks like they're moving toward the project alot sooner than we all here expected Before we know it, this project will be on wheels and we'll be seeing the new development boom just like Victory in Dallas has been experiencing!
  16. I don't understand what everybody's problem is with the neon lights on the Wedge Building. I mean that looks way better than the buildings that use the white perimeter "christmas like" lighting. I think the buildings that are nicely lit downtown are: Wells Fargo Plaza - White neon top Wedge - Green neon outline on top Reliant Energy Plaza - with the changing color band of lights going around top Continential building - with the blue continential logo Toyota Center- with the red toyota logo- they just started that in early 2005 Houston Center 5 Bank of America - when the spires are lit in the triangle fashion As i said earlier : All of the buildings that use the white christmas lighting have got to go! It doesnt compliment what they're doing at street level. Like Great Hizzy said, our downtown looks great at street level, why not have a skyline that compliments that?! I'm not saying everything should go neon but i think there are so many different options that would do better than white christmas lights.
  17. I know many might not be care about this but I was riding down 59 the other night and i realized that the lighting in our downtown skyline downright sucks. While i appreciate a few of the buildings that actually look good, basically half of our downtown is lit with white perimeter "christmas like" lights around the rooftop. Most notably: the Exxon tower, Chase, Fulbright and Houston Centers 1 & 2. Our downtown lighting doesn't make a statement at night that most major cities do. It doesn't indicate that downtown is the place to be in Houston. I was in Dallas this weekend and Austin last weekend and took note on how beautiful their skylines look at night. What's texas's largest city's problem? Does anyone think that when the Houston Pavilions gets built that it could possibly persuade many building owners to change their lighting techniques? I'm not suggesting to be too gaudy or overdo it, but at least get rid of the lighting that doesn't flow. I'm sorry but Christmas lights looks cheap and tacky. I guess in a way, the downtown skyline suggests what Houston really is... CHEAP! I forgot to include a poll but just say yes or no. Will the Houston Pavilions encourage better lighting?
  18. i hope Dallas doesnt get a HOB too! I think the mistake alot of Texas Cities have made is trying to compete with eachother so much to the point that they all are basically becoming replicas of eachother. If Dallas opens up an HOB as well, it will definitely take away the uniqueness aspect of the Pavilions.
  19. i think the whole tunnel thing is kind of a played out idea. i was just in the tunnel a few weeks ago when i took the day off. There were some fine young gals in there. That was the only thing i liked, but other than that, it was still the same boring walk that i last remembered. I think i'd like the tunnels better if there was some sort of people mover installed underground, but that's wishful thinking. Then the question would be as to where it would go. And if there were more attractions put in the tunnels, it would promote people to come downtown and the stores would stay open, even on weekends. Right now, seeing how drab downtown is on street level (Even though it has improved in the last 6 or 7 years), i think i'm more towards the idea of retail at street level. Because many visitors come to our city and think we have a lifeless downtown because there's not as many people crowding the streets as they think there should be. But the people are there, underground in the tunnels. However, the tunnels are good to keep people out of the sweltering, sweaty summer days but i still would like to see more of it at street level if anything.
  20. you know semipro, alot of people said the same thing about the Pavilions project in downtown Denver. Many sad and believed it would never happen. But look what happened? It did. The exact same thing is happening in downtown Houston right now that was happening in Denver a while back (At the end of the 90's). Houston is more like a downtown Denver in the making right now.
