My Pepal @ Mamal had a house in this subdivision from 1974 to 2006. Pepal died in 1984 Mamal died in 2000 my dad died three weeks after we move in 2006. The Harris County Flood control gave use twice as much as the house is worth 100.000 They are gonna make a big detention pond there. That sign you see in between Greens Bayou @ Earthman cemetery with the 7 story building on it is not gonna be built. The County owns that land now. Theres only one house left. The next step is to take down power poles and the streets then they will start diging up all of the pets from there graves and throw them in a landfill.

Update; all the house's are gone now work to begin shortly the Harris County Flood Control District still does not show it on there web site. its about a 1/4 mile east of I-45.

That is McCauley's Buildings and Barns, I-45 @ Knobcrest i remember when that was built. The Cow Palace bar was across the street but it burned down in the late 1980's early 90's.

Part of the name of this topic is Greens Bayou. My dad said that we lived in Greens Bayou when I turned a year old back in the late 1950s. He said that he worked for Todd Shipbuilding. I wonder if that place is still around? I'm also wondering if Greens Bayou was inside the Houston city limits back then, or was it a separate city? Would any of you happen to know?

Greens Bayou is a section that dates back to the 40's. It's in the east side of Houston. Basically, it is bordered by the Bayou on the north and east. It goes about to Industrial Road on the south and just west of Federal Road. I grew up next to the area known as Greens Bayou. I'm sure someone on here will correct me on the exact boundries, but that is basically it. Todd shipyard used to east of the old Armco Plant where Industrial Road dead-ends. It's a private dock today. Hope this helps.

Todd Shipyard was in Galveston and it no longer exist. There is also a Greens Bayou on Galveston Island and I suspect this is the Greens Bayou your father was referring to. It would be a very long commute from the Greens Bayou in Harris County to the Todd Shipyards in Galveston. Not out of the question, but unlikely.

Todd Shipyard was in Galveston and it no longer exist. There is also a Greens Bayou on Galveston Island and I suspect this is the Greens Bayou your father was referring to. It would be a very long commute from the Greens Bayou in Harris County to the Todd Shipyards in Galveston. Not out of the question, but unlikely.

The Galveston facility was larger, and was one of Todd's main facilities, but there was a separate, smaller facility in Houston. My uncle worked there for years. There's a good history of the company here, a list of all the ships constructed at the Houston facility post-WW2 here, and an entry here indicating that the assets of the Houston shipyard were sold by Todd in 1987.

yes there going to build a giant detention pond. I-45 to about 200 yards east of Imperial Valley and from Earth man Resthaven cematery to Greens Bayou.

No, now I just remembered that the name of that ferry is Lynchburg. I had it confused with a road over here called Mansfield Ferry Road.

There's this really neat thing called Google They do maps and satellite images too. You should check it out sometime.

I don't own a computer. I use one at the public library. These are set up not to accept Google.Earth. They will do regular drawn maps, but not satellite images.

I was looking through the paper work and found the fact sheet on the Stormwater Detention Basin ( HCFCD Project ID P500-08-00-R001 )

Property Description

Approximately 138 acres comprised of 2 large tracts in addition to 130 tracts in Glen Forest Estates Subdivision.

Project Benefits

The target level of protection for the Mid-Reach Plan is the 10% storm event (an event that has a 10% of occurring in any given year.)

The greatest impact for lowering the elevation of water within the bayou at this design level is between Northborough Drive and West Hardy Road,

which contains dense development and has experience frequent flooding. The Greens Bayou Stormwater Detention Basin at I-45 is expected to store

approximately 1,200 acre-feet ( 391 million gallons ) of excess storm water. Preliminary studies indicate that computer water surface elevations along

the bayou downstream could be decreased by as much as 1-2 feet.

I lived here from 1992 - 2000.

We went to Dunn Elementary, Teague Middle School and Nimitz HS.

I believe it was rezoned in 93-94.
