J.A.S.O.N.
If I remember correctly there was a downtown Houston lighting scheme thread. I also recall you guys took a proactive approach about the lack thereof. How/who did you guys get in contact with to get answers about your downtown's lighting? I believe Galveston could do a lot better job of lighting or highlighting its downtown architecture. Downtown Galveston is uninviting, bland, and rather creepy at night. Nothing gaudy, just something fitting of older architecture... houstonfella
You've got a point. Lighting up Galveston's downtown and pier area would really make a difference. George Mitchell, where are you now?????

TheNiche
damn..that last pic makes me not want to go to Galvenston when it is dark...looks creepy as hell....That's generally a good idea anyway. I had a crazy beggar pull a knife on me after I'd given him a couple bucks to wash down the windshield at an ExxonMobil on Broadway. He had been rambling on over and over about how careful I should be on account of all the 'devils' out there while carrying out the task.Fortunately, when he pulled the knife on me, it was a simple matter of hitting the gas pedal and lurching forward, half-way over the curb and onto the street. J.A.S.O.N.
Wasn't that last picture during Hurricane Rita though? Nah, just a foggy night, but honestly there isn't much light missing from that photo. Niche, wow man that's some story. Glad to hear everything turned out ok. TheNiche
Niche, wow man that's some story. Glad to hear everything turned out ok. S*** happens. When I told my parents about it, I was kind of surprised that they didn't get all excited and do the overanxious parental thing. My mom just commented that he was probably just the friendly neighborhood paranoid schizophrenic and didn't mean any harm. I begged to differ, but then she's the UTMB occupational therapist that worked Galveston's community of crazies in the early 80's...so I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. My parents lived on Ball Street in Galveston and were both employed by UTMB. Each had some stories of their own. Like the armed robber that hid underneath their house one night in an attempt to evade the police. As you've pointed out in previous threads, things were rough back then. I guess they got used to it. Despite that, my dad has always wanted to move back, but its too expensive for him...and we both prefer the Galveston of old, btw.

Remember THEY poo-pooed on your tree lighting event also.I don't live in Galveston, but my company DOES have a restaurant there that Tillman tried to buy. We said no way in hell. I cannot stand Kemah, the aquarium downtown, anything that he has done on Galveston or anywhere else. He sells an inferior product at exhorbitant prices and tells us that we MUST enjoy it. Don't get me started on the poor tigers downtown. He will NEVER get another DIME of my money - and its been years since he had one.

RedScare
I guess you hate the "City of Galveston" also ? Remember THEY poo-pooed on your tree lighting event also.On the news, it appears everyone has calmed down. A Landry's employee (Manager of Rainforest, perhaps?) admitted that he was responsible for cancelling the event due to space limitations. A Galveston official stated that City Council reduced funding so that they could contribute to as many community events as the budget would allow. The Landry's official said that they were looking for other property that had enough room to bring back the full show next year.

bt12402
Despite what people may fell about Fertitta, he has improved the quality of Galveston as a tourist destination and his ongoing quest to beautify the isle. Not many people have the guts nor moneyto do so. I can't wait to see what he does with the Flagship Hotel and the surrounding areas.
