Hi,

As one of the members of the Battleship Texas Restoration Crew I know that there are discussions to move the ship but nowhere nearer to Houston. We hope to move the ship maybe a hundred yards over from where she is currently simply because she sits smack-dab in the middle of the Texans' camp that was there during the Battle of San Jacinto. There has been some speculation that there may still be some bodies underneath the parking areas for the Battleship.

Moving the ship closer to the city would certainly be a benefit simply because people wouldn't have to drive all the way out there but the Monument and the ship seem to go hand-in-hand- it's hard to imagine one without the other.

On the subject of the Battleship: our Governor Perry and the Texas Legislature have been holding up funds for the restoration of the ship. In many places the hull is only 1/16th of an inch thick. Our pumps have been working overtime to keep her floating. The Volunteer Restoration Crew raises funds for our work by hosting a "Hard Hat Tour" during the winter/spring months. If you're interested, go to http://www.usstexasbb35.com for booking information- hope to see some of you aboard this year!

Why not just plant lots of trees to block the views of the chemical-spewing neighbors? That area could use some landscaping. Half the year it's a hot, mosquito-infested uninviting field. A little horticulture could do wonders toward making it more attractive to visitors.

They want it to be exactly like it was during 1836- currently many of the non-native species of trees/plants are being taken out and replaced with what would have been out there at that period in time.

That suggestion is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.. It's currently located at the battle ground site where Texas won its independence..!!

The ship channel may not be the most scenic view for the monument, but it's where it needs to be...
