Highrise Tower
Jones & Tabor Architects designed a downtown theatre in the 1920s! Never knew this until this week. Very cool history here!
EspersonBuildings
Besides the "grand palaces" like The Majestic on Rusk (just around the corner), The Loews and The Metropolitan on Main, there were quite a few theaters in this area. My dad would mention The Iris in the 600 or 700 block of Main, the Isis further up Main, The Kirby further down Main and The Uptown in the 800 block of Capital. The Uptown might very well be the same as The Texan you are showing us now, perhaps renamed later or a whole different theater altogether but very nearby. The Majestic was linked underground Travis Street to the Neils Esperson Building, that same tunnel still exists today. They were two of the three theaters in downtown Houston owned by Will Horwitz (the third was the Iris). Texan Theater 1
