  • The title was changed to Cano Lounge - 5310 Washington Ave.

The name of the business may be Cana / Cana Bar & Lounge instead of Cano / Cano Lounge. There is an Instagram account for Cana. In the bio, the bar is listed at 5310 Washington Ave. Also, it's listed as Cana in documents submitted to the city.

In regards to Cana's debut, I don't know of the estimated timeframe. However, it may be a little while longer until work begins on this. The plan review inspection report indicates plans haven't passed several departmental reviews.

Below are details about Cane. The details are from construction documents submitted for plan review in March.

  • Cana Lounge
    5310 Washington Ave
    Houston, TX 77007

  • Project Description: 2,135 sf convert to bar/tavern

  • 91 occupancy (however, the occupancy provided in the wastewater capacity reservation letter is 96)

  • 337 sf kitchen

Regarding the occupancy, in the structural review, this was noted:

Interior Occupant Load = 165
Patio 957 SF / 15 = 64
Total = 203

Cana plans to offer off-site parking for customers. According to submitted documents, the bar is proposing off-site parking at shopping center Washington Plaza (5555 Washington Ave) and the CVS at 5401 Washington Ave.

Below are correction notes that were included with the review:

  • Based on the provided site plan, the off-site parking lease agreement is for a site more than 500 feet away from the site of the bar conversion, so it can only be used to meet up to 25% of the parking requirement for this project (no valet contract was found in this submittal).

    However, a valet agreement cannot be used at the site with the CVS/shopping center, because Sec. 26-499 limits valet services to standalone parking lots (cannot be serving any other uses). Additionally, the parking analysis for the off-site tract is not correct because shopping centers with less than 100,000 square feet need to be broken down by use.

    **This project may require a Planning meeting to discuss parking issues before resubmitting.

  • Please provide an approved sidewalk standards modification for any sidewalks to off-site parking areas that do not meet minimum requirements (6-foot wide sidewalk and 4-foot safety buffer between sidewalk and street)
