New Orleans: Post Katrina

Recommended Posts

What is it that is painted on the houses in a lot of these photos? There is either a cross or an X with C, 0, and a date in the quadrants. Is it some a code for the damage?

I think it is some sort of short hand that search and rescue used to let other search and rescue know that that house had been searched and what they found.

That is the marking system rescuers used to identify homes that had been searched for survivors and victims. Someone else will have to tell us what the codes mean. The upper left is the date of search, though.
