Houston 7th most dangerous city in TX

But what are the risk factors? There are risk factors. If one in X Americans get lung cancer at some point in their lives, it doesn't (at least usually) strike healthy people, it will be a smoker or someone with some aggravated lung situation.

Probably one in 5 on the north side of town.

See, that's just it...... And why "statistics" cab ne called "lies, lies, and damn lies"......

It is very likely that the odds of being a crime victim (however defined) are near zero in huge swaths of the city. It is also very likely that in certain areas the odds may approach 1:1.

the "average" for the city is essentially meaningless for the individual....... (but it is good for headlines)

The crime rate in parts of the city is frightening! No wonder why several local politicians are campaigning aggressively on "Tough-On-Crime" platforms!

For big cities, the reporting of such numbers should be done in a more specific way. Ideally, its aim should be relevance rather than mere statistical purposes. The kind of reporting we see mostly only serves to perpetuate fear and distort the truth.

One thing that I've noticed in life is that when you consider or focus too much on statistics, you increase the likelihood of you becoming one. The truth is that these numbers are just that and they don't have to apply to you unless you give in to the fear.
