mkultra25
I will freely admit to having to Google this term, as I'd never run across it before. All was revealed in a 1903 issue of "Dry Goods Reporter": http://books.google.com/books?id=8Zc7AQAAMAAJ&pg=RA7-PA53&lpg=RA7-PA53&dq=pantitorium&source=bl&ots=TN6v3nwZ0T&sig=FwZ2vxbYPFkpQFHiGcpdfFK8tyI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=dPjzUrH-E6aAygGf4YCACw&ved=0CGwQ6AEwDg#v=onepage&q=pantitorium&f=false
brhaltx
I didn't Google the name, but I did look up the address, and it doesn't exist any more.
Ross
The location looks like it was South of Washington, on what was originally called 8th Street http://books.tax.hctx.net/v003/000605.JPG
Subdude
The location looks like it was South of Washington, on what was originally called 8th Street http://books.tax.hctx.net/v003/000605.JPG Thanks! I looked at several old maps but couldn't find a Melner Street anywhere. What is really interesting on the plat you posted is that the street south of Washington is Tin Can Alley. I hadn't seen that mapped out before.
little frau
Please pardon my ignorance but what do the notations "to state of Texas" mean on the plat posted by Ross?
neuman
Please pardon my ignorance but what do the notations "to state of Texas" mean on the plat posted by Ross? Deeded to the State, most likely under eminent domain and probably for I-45 construction. Edited February 7, 2014 by neuman
