Yahoo! Real Estate has put together a list of the 10 most expensive blocks in America. A portion of River Oaks is #7:

Streets around the River Oaks Country Club, such as Inwood Drive and Lazy Lane, have some of the most expensive estates in this section of Houston, according to estimates on Zillow.com. River Oaks is also home to the Menil Collection, a museum of modern art created by Schlumberger oil-drilling heiress Dominique De Menil and her husband Jean. The building, featuring designs by both Louis Kahn and Renzo Piano, houses nearly 16,000 works, including antiquities, Byzantine, African, and Modern art. One of the highlights is the Mark Rothko chapel.

Business Week, Menil Collection is not in River Oaks.

Kind of like the old days. When somebody was murdered or mugged in the Museum District the news reported it as Montrose. Literary license?

Highest value residence in Harris County is the Flores home, formerly the Wyatt's, formerly the Cullens, on River Oaks Blvd North of Inwood. $21m+.

Negative. That might be what you'll find on the MLS. But there are pocket listings out there right now worth $56m+.

Heh, one of the first mentions I've ever heard of River Oaks is in this SimCity 2000 FAQ (official!) from 1995...

This was talking about the requests of what people wanted in future SimCity games.

Country Estates. Historically, rich folk are the ones on

the outskirts of the city (the enclaves may get swallowed

up, but that's another story). If you build/zone

residential stuff really far away from the center of

town, maybe we could have a step up from luxury homes and

have the estates of the "ultra-rich": huge, sprawling

things. Anyone who's ever visited River Oaks in Houston,

or Chappaqua in Westchester County, NY, or Heart

Castle in California, will have an idea what I'm talking

about. (This is the "filthy rich beyond imagining" type

of people.)

Positive. That's the value according to HCAD. If one of those others sells for more, then HCAD will change the numbers. Until it's sold, listing price doesn't count.
