Final Advocate
Does anyone know about the architect named in the HAR posting, Allen R Williams? I am impressed that the agent is suggesting remodeling this place; although it seems unlikely given the neighborhood.http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...mp;backButton=Y
NenaE
What a unique play on angles, hope the next owner appreciates it.
sevfiv
Neat house - just wish the neighborhood was more intact..One of his homes was on the 2005 RDA tour - 6328 Brookside Dr. (1950). In this thread it is mentioned that the Brookside home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was built for Angelo and Lillian Minella, and it was one of several of Williams' "Century Built Homes." mwest
That circular element reminds me of Elvis's Palm Springs house.
BryanS
Some LVL engineered beams would do wonders for that place...

That house is great. It's a shame they're building those hideous out-sized fake French chateauxs down the road. To me that's just as bad as the blighted, crime ridden apartments down the road from my home.

To me that's just as bad as the blighted, crime ridden apartments down the road from my home. I agree about the house. I agree about the oversized McChateaux. But I think I would rather live down the road from those instead of blighted, crime-ridden apartments. Unless you're talkin' about Wilshire Village! bryan75
I spotted 4603 Ivanhoe St: http://search.har.com/engine/4603-Ivanhoe-St-Houston-TX-77027_HAR87835783.htm They've updated it - doesnt look all MCM in style but certainly looks intriguing. What do you think? I hope to go see it this week... Bryan
NenaE
Nice design, I've never heard of Allen R. Williams before, but I like his work. The over-all angles, use of the three stairs to a next level, and the carport under the upper level are features I love to see. At least it looks like they tried to keep it somewhat period-style, with the furnishings. I've seen much worse, before. Just good to see it still there, in reference to the area, Galleria and all. sdmarc
Too bad they covered all of the terrazzo with that wood plank floor. It was beautiful. The exterior matches the "Frank Lloyd Wright inspired" text in the listing, the interior... not so much.
barracuda
It has a lot of updates inside, but it looks nice and I really like the style of the original structure. But as much as I like openness, this has so much hard surface I suspect it will be like an echo chamber inside. And those wood floors look nice, but are absolutely impossible to keep clean. You can tell just looking at the kitchen table shot - the floor is covered in footprints. I also would have diverted some of the money towards cleaning/fixing/painting the exterior siding (like the cracks evident in the rear exterior corner). Regardless, it looks like a nice update overall.
bryan75
Saw It today and wow it has class and a great feel. The angles of this place defy description and it's certainly one helluva party house. The updates are pretty good - indeed not all purist MCM but sympathetic nevertheless. I'm no structural engineer but this place felt like it hadn't moved an inch and I saw no obvious damage. The agent said something about some damage to the travertine however, which might explain the wood floor. The second level has the most beautiful floor (pine??) I think I've ever seen. Unfortunately beyond my budget... for now :-(
