jm1fd Posted June 8, 2005 Share Posted June 8, 2005 I looked at a house today built in 1959 that had a solar "powered" A/C system. There was a big aluminum collector on top of the garage, and in the house there was a chilled water loop for cooling, and a boiler with a heated water loop for heating. After doing some research this sounds like an absorbtion type system....was this a popular thing to have back then, or was this the result of an engineer having built and owned the house? Those are quasi-popular in the desert where there's no humidity, and water will evaporate quite readily.I think this is an absorption based system where you use heat energy to draw heat out of something else.
