I got to meet Mr. Ambrose once, at one of my first jobs, here in Houston...and since then, have always recognized his distinctive radio voice. He'll be missed. Specwriter
Marty Ambrose, longtime traffic reporter for several local radio stations, as well as longtime actor in local theatre, died June 29th, from complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). He was a family friend. I didn't think to post this here at the time.http://abclocal.go.c...ocal&id=7529048I was fortunate to meet Mr. Ambrose on a few occasions. We attended the same church for a while and both worked in Williams Tower (then Transco) about that same time. We recognized each other on sight but I wouldn't be certain if he remembered my name. Then again he might have. From what I could tell, and what I heard from others who knew him better than I, his on-air persona was his actual demeanor. He was kind, genial, and easy-going. Because he had white hair even fifteen years ago, I was shocked to learn that he was so young at the time of his passing. I also had a cousin who succumbed to ALS and she was only 62 years-of-age at the time.Marty Ambrose seemed to me to be the sort of person one would enjoy spending time with and he certainly had a wonderful voice. Subdude
I'm sorry to hear that. He always sounded like a nice fellow on the air, talking about slowdowns at the Shepherd Curve or whatnot. Spare him a thought next time you're stuck in a traffic jam!
