eelimon
San Antonio is very slow to respond to the tourist dollars of rich Mexican Nationals that love to shop in the Houston Galleria b/c of the upscale shops. In truth San Antonio tourist attractions overshadow Houston
citykid09
Forget AstroWorld for now, I hope this huricane Rita doesn't ruin the Houston/Galveston area like it did New Orleans.

segovia
I've been to the "Shops at La Cantera" several times now. It is a nice shopping area. The only drawbacks that come to mind are the weather (open-air marketplace concept), traffic congestion on 1604, and distance from the touristy downtown. Mom22Blessings
I was there again today. My dad/stepmom live out there by UTSA and are building a house in Helotes. I wish I lived a mile away from shops like that! We have to go an hour away to the galleria!
ProHouston
I was there yesterday also. It is a great mall, the hill country architecture, landscaping, and design really work well in this hilly area. The place was packed even though the mall is outdoors and the temps were near 40. ProHouston
Where are these shops in relation to the Westin La Cantera? The Westin is on La Cantera Blvd at the top of the hill. The Shops are at the bottom of the hill at La Cantera Blvd @ 1604. They're walking distance from one another, at least if you're walking to The Shops, the walk back uphill with all your goodies might be a little difficult. segovia
The Westin Riverwalk Hotel is awesome as well. It is near good restaurants, nightclub scene and the majestic theater.

It is gorgeous. I'll have the kids with me though so I thought the La Cantera might be better for them.
