lockmat
houston area could lose up to 10,000 aeronautical jobs??? dang...that's not good.
Fringe
Not good at all. Especially for the Sealy area, or as the Chronicle called it "suburban Houston" , which should put an end to this whole suburban controversy. It's obvious anything within 50 miles of Houston is suburban Houston or our most prestigious newspaper would have never written that.
TheNiche
houston area could lose up to 10,000 aeronautical jobs??? dang...that's not good.Well, manufacturing & aeronautical jobs. This plant in Sealy only dealt with ground-based vehicles. All the same, this sucks.
barracuda
What's worse is that, according to several reports, the jobs may not be at risk if basic steps were taken to request consideration during the contract renewal process. It's beginning to look like an epic fail for Congressman Michael McCaul, who is up for reelection this year, to work on behalf of his district.the Lone Star Project learned that Michael McCaul had not had any written communication -- and, in fact, had no proof of any work he had done -- to protect the contract and keep the 3,000 jobs firmly in his district.http://www.lonestarproject.net/files/McCaul-12-8-2009.pdfhttp://www.burntorangereport.com/diary/9985/michael-mccauls-negligence-causes-sealy-bae-systems-plant-to-lose-3000-jobs

Hanuman
He should be tarred and feathered. NOW!Agreed, Sir. I was a victim of this in the 1980's recession as Nasa jobs were lost due to space program cuts. We lived in Nassau Bay then, and watched the whole Bay Area boarded up. I was working for a NASA contractor then, and we all got laid off. Many people moved away, and most, including myself, took jobs below our degreed pay grade, and totally out of our professional areas. This went on for years, and the economy returned very, very slowly to the Bay Area, although it did not help those like myself, who lost everything, including alot of self respect. And... here it comes again. Politicians? My Lord, I just can't find the words...

plumber2
According to some online news searches, it appears that BAE Systems also had some problems with bribery over a Saudi Arbia deal. They have been fined heavily for that. Also, another article stated that the city of Oshkosh is providing Oshkosh (the company) 3 million dollars of incentives for this deal.So there!
