RustyB
I know this might not be all that exciting, but I think these helicopters are cool. Pardon the crappy picture...I took it while I was driving down Dallas coming back from Krogers...and I'm one of those that can't talk on the phone while driving...so I'm surprised I didn't blow a tire on the curb (or another car) trying to take this picture while going 30mph.... HoustonMidtown
It was down here last weekend also - it was sitting in the parking lot at Dallas and Clay. It sure is a big beast !!

RustyB
Yeah it was loud as hell and woke me up at 7 30 this Sunday morning. I just now rolled out the bed at 8:00am/Sunday, and can hear it over here on the other side of the GRB! I took the pic about 3:30pm on Saturday...I hope the pilot is drinking plenty of coffee. I might have to steer my car over that way this afternoon and see if I can catch a glimpse.
LTAWACS
Looks like they are installing new vending machines in that building. Cool.
editor
That's so funny. Almost exactly 24 hours before you were taking pictures of that sky crane in Houston, I was taking pictures of a sky crane at work in Chicago: I made a video for one of HAIF's remaining sister sites, the Chicago Architecture Blog: <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="500" height="281" data="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=71377" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000"> <param name="flashvars" value="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=46a2e7fd4c&photo_id=4319509532"></param> <param name="movie" value="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=71377"></param> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000"></param> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/stewart.swf?v=71377" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="intl_lang=en-us&photo_secret=46a2e7fd4c&photo_id=4319509532" height="281" width="500"></embed></object>
editor
Someone just posted this information on the Chicago blog about these helicopters:The helicopter is the Erickson Air Crane: http://www.ericksonaircrane.com/. This helicopter is able to lift up to 25,000 pounds. The main rotor has a span of 72 feet and is driven by two jet engines with combined horsepower of 9,000 hp! Northwood
I think the helo was in town to deliver a new window washing crane to the roof of 1100 Louisiana. I noticed the new equipment on the roof for the first time on my drive in the morning.
