I was walking to the TMC commons yesterday when I noticed that the fenced in area next to the Methodist Research Center construction site said "Texas Heart Institute Phase 1 Expansion". Anybody have any info on this? It's right next to the current THI building - between it and the Methodist Research construction.

They are already in the process of expand SLEH. The expansion is further back off the road, not a very large structure expansion.

Texas Heart Institute hires new president and CEO from Duke University Health System

https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2021/03/18/texas-heart-institute-duke-university-james-rogers.html

Texas Heart Institute, the pioneering Houston group behind notable advances in cardiovascular and heart transplant medicine, has found its new president and CEO after a national search.

Joseph G. Rogers will take over the president and CEO role at Texas Heart Institute on May 17. THI's previous president and then president emeritus was James T. Willerson. Willerson was appointed to the president role by renowned surgeon and THI founder Dr. Denton Cooley and became president emeritus in 2017 after Cooley died in 2016. Willerson served as president emeritus until he died in September 2020, THI told the Houston Business Journal in an email.

Is there a plan for a heart center on the new [in 2014 at the time of this FAQ] campus?

There is a shared vision by Baylor, Texas Heart Institute and CHI St. Luke’s to develop a cardiovascular center of excellence on the McNair Campus. With the strengths we all bring to this collaboration, there is no doubt that this center would be an outstanding place for cardiovascular care, research and education. We will all work together toward this goal. It is an exciting vision that again shows the benefit to the community of collaboration in the Texas Medical Center.

It makes sense to at least wonder whether the old Saint Luke's Episcopal complex could become the headquarters site of an unprecedented public private partnership between Texas Childrens Hospital, Houston Methodist, MDAnderson (all three neighbors to the complex) and the wider UTHealth system, plus the medical researchers at other state-funded colleges and medical schools, to provide the best possible pediatric cancer center in the country.
