lockmat
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...751C0A962948260Question one. Will we ever see a tower as thin and tall as Transco in Houston(or maybe there's plenty and I just can't think of them)? The reason I doubt it is because of our need for parking garages. I guess it's possible but it seems the trend is fat rectangular buildings, at least in Houston.two: When do yall think we will get another gem like the Bank of America tower? The closest thing I've lately is MainPlace, but that's more for it's function. Not that the design isn't nice, but it's not striking. It's sleek. I like that about it. editor
It could happen again. Height is might, and parking can be worked into a podium or underground or both.

I like that about it.The Chronicle or the Post interviewed Philip Johnson when this building was new and asked him if this was the best building he had ever designed. He responded "I haven't done my best one yet". That's a great attitude considering he was probably in his late 70's at the time.
Subdude
Great article, thanks for posting. There was a time when Houston was considered one of the leading cities for architecture in America.

(e.g., the Beck Building)
ChannelTwoNews
I'm going to have to dig through my folders to see if I have the critic from the Post's take on both buildings. For some reason, I think they came out around the same time, both relatively short and favorable to the projects.
