GREASER Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 sooo instead of going to Myako (sp?) on our regular Wed night rest. we decided to go to the new Star sushi restraunt. Sign is huge, no one is ever there so we decided to go. Its not open yet. It was kinda embarassing..just FYI so no one else waste their time going....I will say that place is very large. Hopefully people from the area will ck it out. Quote
ricco67 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 It will definitely get your attention. I've been keeping track of it after I noticed the B.A. Sign out front. I swear you can see that thing from orbit. I might give it a shot. Sushi is the only buffet I allow myself to go to, hopefully it will attract quite a bit of business from the Airport hotels nearby. GREASER Posted January 17, 2008 Author Posted January 17, 2008 ya that neon rivals the Colorado Club ...whatever that place is. Quote
ricco67 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 ya that neon rivals the Colorado Club ...whatever that place is.I am not sure, but I THINK it's a church group. I'm not certain. <cough><cough> Quote
musicman Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 ya that neon rivals the Colorado Club ...whatever that place is. um, yeah, i've never been there either. Quote
Vertigo58 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 The neon is very low-key Reno/Vegas soft porn like and it may end up being as horrible as the one next to Seller's Grocery down the frwy. There will not be enough parking for this place. Let's look at the bright side, you could pig out, get ill, then get your dollar store items next door ie; outdated Maalox. Quote
Vertigo58 Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 We assumed this place was open but its not. Still has a way to go. ended up at James Coney next door, bummer. Quote
Vertigo58 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Now it's open. The place appears jam packed most of the weekend. Hungry, tired of Slim Fast, immune to it now. Quote
musicman Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 (edited) Now it's open. The place appears jam packed most of the weekend. report back vert if you go. just warn me if the place serves pizza. Edited March 4, 2008 by musicman Quote
Vertigo58 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 or hamburgers. Not expecting nothing spectacular of course. All of this area seems too crowded as is. These places normally start out with a bang then slowly go into Marvin Zindlerish slime-list candidates. Quote
travelguy_73 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I will only do sushi buffets when a place is crowded and I can see them regularly replenish their selections...at least you know the fish hasn't been sitting out on the line very long. Quote
scottf Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I ate there last night. Yes, there is pizza, but there is so much more. I ate a lot of the sushi and it was excellent. I don't usually like buffets but as far as buffets go, this was probably the best chinese buffet I've been to. The ambience is very unexpected and nice. Kind of a Vegas, buddha lounge vibe, complete with mellow trance techno playing through the excellent sound system. Overall, pretty trippy place. But very clean, very good service, pretty good food. I'll go again... Quote
ricco67 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 I drove by there the other night and was stunned to see the parking lot was almost at capacity. I swear it will be a plus for people that are looking for a decent place to eat. Hmmm......Maki.... Quote

Now if they can just keep up the momentum and add numerous more establishments like this all the way heading into downtown it could be the (dream) turn around the area has been needing for decades! Getting the champagne glasses/ballon drop ready everyone! Quote
GREASER Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 We went and it was good. There were some really big people there..and not like famous. There was alot of fried stuff w/sauces..but the sushi was good. I was very surprised..they actually had salmon that was just sliced sitting there. This is the same as the buffet at Tidwell and 45...its exactly the same, must be the same owners.? Quote

Would have nice views of, well the freeway but at least it would make you think of far way places while you chow down. Can you imagine if there were an upscale bar in this area? Quote
stolitx Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 We tried it out. We try to stay away from buffets but we'd go again. I think it was around $9 for dinner but I can't remember exactly.I don't care for sushi but it looked fresh and there was a nice selection. I've been to a few chinese buffet places where the sushi had yellow mustard and/or ketchup drizzled on it. This place didnt have that, if that helps anyone gauge that it's not the worst in town.Decent selection of all the usual suspects you'd expect at a chinese buffet. The decor and service were nice. Quote
ricco67 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 I need to go there. Maybe since I'm taking another (lack of) mental health day today, I might meander my way over and have a shot of sushi.Generally, I stay away from Boofay's (Particularly hard for CiCi's but whatever), but at least Sushi is healthier than your typical chinese joint. CateyBeth Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 Holy Moses, this stuff is pretty GOOD! And uber-cheap to boot. Who knew you could actually buy better-than-edible sushi by the pound? Their sushi takeout price is $5.45/lb. I requested takeout, and they handed me a standard styrofoam container to load up. When I returned with my loaded container (see below), it was just over $10 worth - plenty for two of us to share. I was loading up on the salmon as the staff was placing it in the tray. Absolutely no complaints when I returned home. I've had much worse, from much more "reputable" sushi restaurants. I glanced around the restaurant, which was packed with people all looking very happy. The food all looked tasty and the staff seemed attentive. I will definitely go back, for both dine-in and takeout. Quote
Vertigo58 Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 These are the same owners of the same buffet over on Nasa Road. We all have different opinions on Haif , and I give it about a 6 on great quality food. I expected much, much better. On a happy note though the interiors are fantastic! It seems like after closing hours the owners use as a disco or hip lounge joint. Very modern. Even the washrooms have a Four Seasons hotel effect. Quote
