Well obviously the men's shelter is a men's sheter, but what is it? Is it a homeless shelter for men?

There were a couple of articles about Pete Hope, how he came to Houston with nothing and was saved from alcoholism by the 12-step program. He was (is) the driving force behind The Men's Center.
