J.A.S.O.N.
I got these from the web for those who haven't seen these photos. My wife and I actually went out to the site a couple of months ago and it pretty much looks the same, also the smell of urine is overwhelming. I remember our elementary school going on a field trip to Sea Arama in the early 80's.

ssullivan
Wow it's sad to see the old Sea Arama facility in such poor condition. I hope something will be done to redevelop it.
pineda
Sea-arama and Landry's Tillman Fertitta bought Sea-arama last year, and I'm sure that unless his seemingly inexhausible supply of money runs out, that he will far surpass all of our expectations with the renovation of the old Sea-arama Marine World property. Tillman is nothing if not the modern-day version of P.T. Barnum!
Hunter
Ahh!!! Now that is the Galveston I remember. And how much it looks today. I remember going to that place several times in the past. The last was just before they closed. All of the tanks were full of algae and very green. The fish all looked very sick and sad, I remember my sister started to cry so much over the poor fish that we left and my dad demanded his money back. It closed not long after. I see that it has not improved much at all. Thanks for the pics.

TJones
Couldn't generate enough money to keep afloat. No pun intended. I remember one the waterskiers in the show take a bad bad spill right infront of me back in like '77 or '78. He was trying to be all cool, and glide in off the water but his ski dug into the sand and it looked like the $10000 winner of an "AFV" show. Pumapayam
Couldn't generate enough money to keep afloat. No pun intended. But you would think after 25 years and the huge surrounding area population that it would have had an established clientel. I know with the oil bust that the Houston population was stagnant, but still, we have plenty of peeps here. There must have been some crazy increase in operating cost, or mismanagment of funds, or lack of maintenance. The first pyramid in Moody Gardens did not operate until 1993. KimberlySayWhat
Thanks for the pictures! It was depressing but nice to see it at least still standing (via FreakyDude's pictures). Then you scroll down a little and J.A.S.O.N ruins it by posting pictures of it being demolished. Now I'm both sad and nostalgic.

Pumapayam
Sea-rama building demo'd for an RV park. That sucks! Puma, if you lived by Sea World would you go every weekend ? It's working for Moody Gardens now. I think people go, just not every weekend, but at least once or tiwce a year, especially to entertain friends and relatives who visit Houston. We don't have very many attractions that are unique here.

Pumapayam
No, I'm not joking. Sorry, I read your entry wrong at the beginning, (for those confused about the post, I changed it to make more sense, which now makes Montrose1100's seem confusing) I was thinking he was refering to a WaterWorld in it's current form (i.e. non-existant) rather than a past tense reference. My bad.
