KTRH even more right leaning now ... Ed Schultz gone?

Recommended Posts

The last hope I had for KTRH (AM 740) to keep some semblance of balanced viewpoints is gone by their replacement of 'self professed progressive' talkshow host Ed Schultz, with the 'now' right-leaning Dennis Miller.

Let's see ... they added Rush (Limbaugh), got rid of Ed Shultz, and now have Dennis Miller.

It's official ... KTRH has totally tilted to the right.

Don't worry. I'm sure Miller will fail as miserbly as he has at every other thing he's ever done.

Dennis Miller? He hasn't been interesting since Sniglets and Not Necessarily The News. What was that, like 1982 -- a quarter century ago?

Yeah, he was barely tolerable when he had the HBO show, but that's been years.

Even his voice is annoying. Don't these people have enough money for voice coaches?

I was disappointed when KTRH departed from around the clock News to the talk show format style but Rush wanted to be on a 50,000 watt station compared to the 5000 watt station he was on KPRC. But the only thing about change is it always changes nothing is forever.

Ken Charles is the South regional program director for Clear Channel. When he was only a Clear Channel program directer for Houston he thought it was a good ideal to reformat 101.1 KLOL

A couple of thoughts. Has anyone ever listened to a radio station in DC called WTOP (it is all new all the time and you can listen to it on streaming if interested). They do of course have talk programs like KTRH, but it is mostly news. After moving here, I tried to find a similar station and WTOP (I thought fit the bill), but it is apparent lately that it is so right-leaning that it is difficult to listen to them except for the news which is at the tops of the hours it seems except for mornings when it's all news.

I used to somewhat respect Chris Baker, but he has fallen lately. Seems if you don't agree with him on the air he pouts, derides you, and then talks you down (a very similar thing happens with most right-wing hosts ... how odd).

Anyhow, I will not be listening (to KTRH) any more and have found some peace further up the dial at AM 1320 (BizRadio). While it has a pro-business, pro-capitalism, and yes, (sometimes) pro-Republican leaning at with certain hosts, it has never seemed abrasive or rude to their call-in guests or listeners. I also like the fact that I LEARN something every time I listen to them, regardless of who is hosting the shows whether it be on home finance, personal finance, weekly news in review, etc.

Far more than I could say for KTRH.

Oh yeah, and while I'm on my radio rant, there is a station (not sure the call letters or number) down below 740 AM. It is a religious station. They call themselves 'Christian' radio so I listened for a minute. I was horrified one night when they were talking about all the Muslims and how we should just go over there (where ever there is...?) and kill them all. I was shocked and therefore didn't listen long, but I was like ... 'And they call this Christian radio?' ... They are not my brand of Christianity for sure, and another reason I have problems with people who call themselves that.

There's a show called Arab Voices on 90.1 that I used to listen too on Wednesday before Technology Bites. It is controversial and I like to hear all side's of the story before i make my judgement's. It's all about researching the Internet you will find the answer even through 90% of the Internet is a vast wasteland. <_<

edit; I think Chris Baker is a funny and entertaining show

Didn't I hear that Ken Charles was 'relocated' to Florida? I'm not sure if it was a demotion or what, but from what I understand, he's no longer making the decisions here in town. Screwed up some good stations and moved on?

Ken Charles "Clear Channel Regional Vice President of Programing " is a nice guy but he is making decisions for a mega media company.

Yeah, I listen to 90.1 every now and then and was even donated to them a few years.

700 KSEV is the station your talking about. I remember in the late 1980's to the early 90's... 740 KTRH did Gardenline 4 hours everyday then the new's, the only talk show that was on 740 was Coast to Coast with Art Bell and on 950 KPRC it was nothing but paid programming until 11:00-2:00 when Rush was on the air. I am glad we have the variety of different show's now.

You guys don't have to listen to 740 or 950, you can always go listen to Air America ! ^_^ Oooops, no, sorry, you can't do that either.

I think I've made it clear that I don't.

But if a radio station is supposed to gain listeners, then how is running them off a good thing?

I guess because most people are too busy working while the lazy-ass right-wingnuts are kicking back worshiping their ex-welfare, serial divorcee, drug addicted, child predator enabeling poster child Limbaugh? :P

Try, because they couldn't get ANY support from listeners and were too busy ripping off little kids to stay afloat for another week, good job Al Frankenfurter. It was painfully obvious that NOBODY wants to listen to Left-wing Socialism with nothing but doom and gloom because Libs. can't get their way. Maybe they will try Air America again if and when a Democrat Pres. gains office and will pass a bill creating a program to fund Liberal radio?

Macbro, they aren't trying to gain YOU as a listener, you are not their demographic, the companies that pay the bills for radio spots aren't trying to sell YOU their product. Besides, they kinda know that you and people like you are gonna listen anyways just to see what Limbaugh and Hannity are gonna say next. Kinda the same reason why everyone tunes into Stern, love him or hate him, you want to know what is gonna happen next, how is that S.O.B. gonna trip up today.

Naw, I am just about radio free (except for in the car). Lately, I listen to mostly podcasts and video podcasts of news of my choosing.

Guess they've driven me right into it.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but there are quite a few people out here for whom this rightward shift you say you've observed is a good thing, and I'm one of them. We love it. A sign of intelligent life on the radio in this town.

Your complaint proves it really was out there on the left wing, despite its vehement denials that it wasn't. Personally, I don't think it's come as far to the right as you think. It has pulled back from the left, but I think it's finally in the middle now, where it should have been all along.

I cannot believe you actually believe that. I am not sure about other stations, but KTRH is solidly conservative, dare I say right-wing, talk now ... there is no middle, there is no left ... how is that in the middle?

It's a commercial radio station if you are boring nobody listens, and if nobody is listening the sponsors wont buy advertisement time.

Maybe their not putting on what you call "balanced" hosts because they flop like a flag in the wind every time it's tried. It's a business my friend, and KTRH is putting on what makes them money (see Air America).

I'm no Rush fan, not even close, but damnit I get tired of this stuff. This is the US, and if a private radio station wants to make money by leaning to the political right, then let them. As I said in so many words above... Liberal radio does not work.

By the way... I'm NOT a Republican.

Finally! Someone who realizes the realities of commercial radio. To survive, radio stations must have programming people will listen to. It's just an inescapable fact that issues oriented conservative oriented radio draws listeners, but liberal oriented radio doesn't draw flies.

I'm not a Republican either, but I am conservative on some things, liberal on others. I'm one who thinks the spread of conservative radio is a welcome development, but I had to stop listening to the current line-up of conservative shows because they were giving me headaches. Hey guys! Stop yelling so much and lighten up on the anger.

I've discovered Dave Ramsey, and he's infinitely more interesting than the issues guys.

I'm with you on that. Like I said, when I do listen it's either business radio 1320am or NPR or sometimes 90.1KPFT.

I do not mind true conservatives. I have issues with the Rushs and the Millers, and the Medvids (or however you spell his name) that blame every issue on democrats and liberals and really approach 'hate speech' for anything that's not conservative.

air america failed not becuase it was liberal becuase it was contrived and too combative. they didn't present a liberal point a view, they just attacked the right. not too mention they were on like 5 radio stations around the country.

however, KPFT is an example that liberal radio does work.
