gospel brunch ran it's course 10 years ago, the corporate types forced them to have it once a month. They tried rebranding it as kirk franklin's gospel brunch, that didn't work. I personally have no interest in ever setting foot in that stupid place again, even if they offer me twice my day rate. The Great Wall Of Tumbleweed is falling apart, they need to fix it or take it down (I would prefer they take it down)
the bowling alley already catered to the lowest common denominator, albeit those who could pass their dress code. They had great potato chips and club sammiches. I can't bowl more than 5 frames due to a shoulder injury suffered across the hall, so I rarely went there.
Guadalajara was bad ass if you ate off-menu items. They made them for me since I was in there a lot. Is it still open? I have no interest in ever setting foot on that property again.
Phoenicia around the corner is still good, but they cut down on the number of days they have lamb shanks (baa baa sheep must not be having kids anymore, either, like their human counterparts), and they no longer have curry.
Dirt Bar is still there, still sounds awesome inside (heh heh), Veronica is still beautiful, other Veronica is at Etro now, i have posted pics of both before, they're both models who bartend.

Oh yeah, and does anyone know where the 80's club called "Wave's" was? I am thinking it may have been somewhere on/near the Richmond strip.
YES IT WAS ON WESTHEIMER NEAR CHIMMY ROCK. My band played there back in the 80’sYep, it was near Cardi's, and didn't last nearly as long.
Your band played everywhere.
I miss Brad.- 1

was it the Rose Hall in Alvin? That was on Hwy 35 just south of 528. It's a western wear outlet now. There was many a Saturday back in the 90s when the country band I worked with played there - it had a huge open area for people to walk around in a huge circle- some of y'all call that "two steppin".

Oh the days when we all thought this was never going to get built. So much drama. So much speculation. We have certainly come a long way haven't we.
What's the next building we are all irrationally impatient about that has not started yet?
BOTSW Tower

so it's going to be a demolish and build?

every argument y'all use for why HEB should build here can also be used to give to Harris County to start a new Criminal Justice campus. There's no flooding, it's near the rail line, easy freeway access, large areas of land

It looks like something that would fit on Post Oak Blvd.

isn't Soundwaves the place that had the late night TV advertisements with two girls with huge..... tracts of land.... who were 'flat busted', so they had to sell their CDs to a record store?

I used to skip out of work for a few hours and play Houston Hills. The 9th Hole had water on three sides of it, the side that didn't have water was the back side. The first time i played there, we waited for the greenskeeper to finish moving the tee hole before swinging on a par 3... My tee shot slowly rolled over where the freshly moved hole used to be.
It was built on the Bellaire and West U garbage dump, so some of the hazards included the tire sticking out of the ground near the third hole's dog leg.
I never played it after it expanded to an 18 hole course. -

...other great shows at the Agora others have not mentioned: Pat Benatar and Texas-boy Eric Johnson (strictly instrumental when I saw him, wearing a high school marching band jacket)...
he still wears something similar to a marching band jacket.
I don't remember what it was between Faces and City Streets, I helped build the sound system and lighting for whatever it was then. I had just come off a 3 month run from Colorado through Floriduh, so I stopped by there one day in '88. Turns out my old Cardi's stage crew was the stage crew here, too. I watched Iggy Pop do sound check...
Club Xcess... a quick google search got that, and the date, Oct 11, 1988.... and rehearse a new song. I went out back and hung out with the band guys and their opening act for a few minutes before heading home for the first time in 3 months.
The opening act was Jane's Addiction.

there was a Smith Chevrolet on Travis St in the 50's and early 60s.
I'm headed to that building as soon as I shut the laptop off - it's now Rise Rooftop.- 1

I did a discovery flight at the West Houston airport. I think it was 10 years ago. The main thing I discovered is that I'm blind as a bat, but the flight, and taking the controls for a few minutes, was very enjoyable.

the Lanier building was finished in 1968, the tree's shadows say it was taken in summer, so this is either summer of 68 or 69.

For those of you who hated the mural painted near the garage exit, it's gone. The wall is black now. The question is, how much more black can it be, and the answer is.... none... none more black.

there's a sign on this building that says "High Street". Is this a working name, or the real name? All I can think of when they say High Street is the kids from That 70's Show getting stoned in their circle with Hyde talking about a car that runs on water, man.... lol

McIntyre’s Restaurant At 901 Commerce St.

I did some work for McIntyre's on St Paddy's Day weekend. I kinda like the place. The first and second levels are open to the brutal north winds, but they have heaters, so it balances out.
The weather was great on the 17th.
Anyway, I had some lighting fixtures with very narrow beams. One of them was able to hit the Main Street Bridge about 500' away. This should happen more often....
