  1. Warehouse Live is closing Dec 3. All operations are moving to Rise Rooftop, which will be rebranded as Warehouse Live.
The entrance is moving to McGowan St, with an elevator so my bud Raul can come to a show.

Rise will shut down for 2 weeks to do the major reconstruction of the interior, this happens after the Dec 16 show.

We old-timers have heard this kind of nonsense before. I think it was 1974 when Houston (The city of the future!) was “on track to becoming the largest city in the world” in the not-so-distant future. 🙄

yes, then right after they scaled back plans for the "city of tomorrow," half of the Rust Belt moved to Houston.

I used to have a bumper sticker that said, "Will the last person leaving Michigan please turn off the light?"

Any follow-up from your source?  Per their website, the restaurant still seems to be a restaurant, with no hint of a comedy club.

a current employee confirmed the stupidity - the hob restaurant will be converted into a comedy club. He didn't mention a timeline.
I guess the door codes won't be 1204 anymore...

  4. clockwise.... Hardy Toll Road is the Hardy Toll road.
59, which technically the Lloyd Bentsen (remember him?) freeway, is Eastex out to Porter. I-10 East is The Beast to Baytown, then it's I-10
225 is 225. Does it have an official name?

45 South is The Gulf Freeway up until it's end at 61st St
288 is 288. Is The Nolan Ryan Expressway the official name?

59 South is the SWF until Rosenberg, then it's 59.
I-10 West is The Katy Freeway from downtown to The Brazos River, then it's I-10 to the Santa Monica Pier.

fun note.... Texas mile marker 333 is 1/3 of the way from Houston to Los Angeles. Arizona mile marker 333 is 2/3 of the way to LA. I checked the last time I made that drive.

290 is the NWF from The Loop to the Beltway, then it's 290 to Austin.

249 is 249 no matter where it is.

45 North is the North Freeway from I-10 to The Woodlands, then it's 45.
It's already 3 lanes to Walker County, it's going to be 3 lanes all the way to that large city on the wrong end of I-45.

To be clear, the first House of Blues was a concert hall and restaurant.

actually it was in a small house in Cambridge MA that had a stage added as an afterthought when customers started asking for music.

Live Nation drilled this stuff into our heads as part of the corporate culture. New Orleans was the second HoB, the first one built as a restaurant/concert hall/side room / Foundation Room.

and thanks for making me think about that place more in the last 5 minutes than i have in the last 2.5 years.... .

I heard they plan to replace the restaurant with a comedy club.

they are stupid, but they are not THAT stupid. As a former HoB employee (was there from opening day through 2021 when Dave Chappelle's people got me fired), I can tell you that HoB started in Bahston as a restaurant, so they are a restaurant with a concert venue attached, not the other way around. The food may suck, but they will never lose the restaurant. They depend too heavily upon it for special events which are what keeps the doors open.

Any idea of when that picture was taken? The transformation from mostly low rise to mid to high rise over the years is pretty startling.

has to be winter of 72. Three GP is finished, that's 5 built to the third floor, it opened in 73. Plus, there are houses where The Summit was going to be built, that opened Nov 1, 1975. They broke ground in Dec 1973, so I assume the houses were demolished by then.

  8. Troop 148 from Sugar Land here. I got as far as Life scout before I was kicked out for turning 18. My brother is an Eagle Scout. My only holdback was I never got the Citizenship In The Community merit badge since I really didn't HAVE a community.... Living in Alief and going to school in Sugar Land because your parental units bought a house on one of 3 streets in that neighborhood that are in Ft Bend County does that to you... (they let me get the Citizenship In The Nation and World badges to advance to Star and Life)

  9. I have a better idea. How about the finish the Alt 90 at Lane Lane project, or restore it the way it was and remove the concrete blocks.... There has been zero progress in 5 years.

or... finish the Richmond Parkway and Loop 762 intersection before the flower seeds I threw at the construction site take root. This has been stuck at the 50% completion mark for 6 months now.

  10. The Houston Open is usually the weekend before The Masters tournament, so the top notch golfers take the week off to rest up for The Masters.
I need to get the clubs out and smack some balls around... I haven't played since my trip to England in 2016 when we played at former Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing's course

  11. Here's an overlay pic. This thread did answer a question i had for almost 50 years, but forgot about.... When riding the bus into Sugar Land Jr High (Trojans, not Titans... .) when it first opened, we would ride by a huge abandoned mansion set back on the south side of Lakeview Drive. This was 1976-1979, a long time before there was a neighborhood surrounding the school. Back then, 7th street ended at the school's driveway. We all always wondered whose mansion it was, and why such a huge place was abandoned. Some of the Sugar Land kids said people were murdered there, so it was abandoned... I always thought they were full of crap.

Now I know it was BF Terry's mansion.

Anyway, the old race track is partially under 59.
the obscene word on the 1953 map has been blurred. (it would have been called Lester road in 1953, they renamed it to the D-Word in the late 70's)
