  1. I am working on something slowly - obsessive, but I'm almost done. I think the formation I posted above was only the very innermost oval (between the two circles and in the outer oval).

I went out there this past weekend for the first time in a couple years and came in from the north side. There is a big elevated prairie off of Maxine St. and Industrial Dr. - anyone know what that is or was? I think it's where the original neighborhood was platted but never built (the presidential street names). If this has been discussed here before, forgive me - it's been a long time!

Otherwise, the area is the same - heavily industrial, run down houses, and trash everywhere.

  2. Two years ago, a real-estate agent suggested he consider purchasing a condominium at the luxurious Bellevue Towers, and he picked one on the 32nd floor. About the same time, he also started the purchase of a house in Bellevue and another in Redmond.

Delighted that he prequalified for the $1.5 million Bellevue Towers condo on his $20,000-a-year income, he put down more than $75,000 in earnest money he borrowed from a friend.

We're not hearing something (surprise), but still - he sounds a little...slow?

  3. I haven't personally noticed more than normal, but I do notice trends on the news (or news feeds, in my case). Not sure if that is just reporters picking and choosing/sensationalizing, or if they are real trends in crime.

I guess taking a look at the HPD statistics in a few months would show something more definitive.

  4. Article reads:The incident happened in the 2900 block of Leeland, a short distance southeast of downtown, at about 2:30 a.m., Houston police said.

Anyone stupid enough to be in that area of town that LATE at night, well, that tells all.

Landry lives (among other homeowners) in the 2900 block of Leeland...

  5. SW Houston encompasses a huge area depending on who's talking (from Bellaire to Sugar Land and everything in between for the less descriptive).

Most places here you'll hear bad things about would be greater Fondren Southwest, Alief, and Westwood areas which take up a pretty big zone around Beltway 8 near US 59.

77099 seems statistically pretty diverse, but its center is around S. Kirkwood and Bissonnet, an area I'm not too familiar with.

I'm sure if you provide a few more details such as price, square footage, and maximum drive time needs/wants, folks here will be able to help out..

  6. Interesting - helps explain some of the names/areas up there (Strack, Hufsmith, etc).

It's also kinda of neat to look at some of the changes to the areas on the Harris County block book maps - like the Delesdernier land eventually became the Wimbledon Estates, Cypresswood, Northwood Farms, and Terranova/Oaks of Terranova neighborhoods..

  7. Not a good place to be at 4 in the morning. Hope he's okay. The Rockets really need him.

Unfortunately, I think he was shot a few blocks from where he lives (new townhomes on Leeland). KTRK reports he was running to his neighbors' homes for help.

Landry was apparently the victim of a random shooting. He was driving in the 3,000 block of Leeland at around 4am when two men rear-ended his car. When Landry got out to see what had happened, at least one of the two men shot him in the leg. Landry sustained a flesh would and ran to several of his neighbors' homes to try to get someone to help him.

One of his neighbors who didn't want to be shown on camera said he had no idea it was Landry outside his door who needed help. He showed us the trail of blood Landry left behind.
